Gaaahh! I've turned into a Chicken Snob!! Omigosh. I have become the thing that I used to make fun of! Whenever I hear people call their Easter Eggers "Ameraucanas" or see Americaunas/ Araucanas advertised, I'm like "oh.. stupid people. Those are PROBABLY just Easter Eggers.
When I go to a feed store, I scrutinize the chicks, how they look and critique the workers and other customers as to their true chicken knowledge.
I prefer to hatch/ raise my own chicks, so I know where they came from and how they were handled.
And I TOTALLY condemn and look down on people who get chicks for EASTER.

Ugh! I'm SUCH A Snob!

But I love it.....
I have just hatched some Icelandic/EE's (you will notice I don't call them Ameraucanas!).

The silver/grey is one of the EE crosses (no idee what the other one is since himself got the eggs muddled up in the hatcher) I wanted Icee/EE crosses becasue I wanted a blue egg layer with the winter face and a crest!

Oh I SO do the same thing! I looked at the chicks at my feed store exactly once this year, and as I walked away I realized I had a horrible scowl on my face the whole time! LOL The other customers must have thought I was COMPLETELY insane!!

Yeah, the only chicks we get at the feed store are the CornishX for meat birds, and they are only here for 5 weeks.
Guess we are all snobs!

I almost took a picture of the sign at Coastal Farm where it said Ameraucanas then it said they lay blue, green and pink eggs. Grrr

Ha, Ha! I was in our local feed store in Jefferson on Sat. A customer asked me if I knew what the chicks were in an unmarked bin. I looked at their cute little muffs and said they were Easter Eggers. She said "oh, you mean Ameraucanas or Araucanas". I said, "No, Easter Eggers, the hatchery these came from don't sell pure-bred Ameraucanas or Araucanas". She said, "I see". Boy what a snob I have turned into as well :)

My Cochin "Daphne" seems to be going broody again, she laid an egg yesterday but has been on the nest with the other girls eggs all day today. My wife and I were at Trader Joe's today and the one by us dosen't have the fertelized eggs that I have heard of. I wish they did as I would ley her sit on those and see if she'd be a good Moma. If anyone has a few fertilized eggs for laying breeds that I could purchase in PDX or close I would be very appreciative.

Thanks,

Marty

I have assorted bantam eggs available. :) Mostly Faverolles.

I think I could make it out to Canby this week except For Thursday Dr. apointment as I am on vacation this week. Please let me know what works for you and if possible What varieties I may get. I read some of your reviews on these chickens and they sound good. They don't have to be any show quality as my girls are mainly for eggs and entertainment.

Thanx again'

Marty

Alright chicken snobs!! Educate me. How do we tell the difference? I should know this already but I've never been a huge fan of beards or muffs or tufts. No offence. But now I should know because I just got what are suppose to be blue aracaunas.

I do. I'm in SE Portland. Om if you are interested.

I'm really not sue either, I just KNOW the ones in the feed stores ARE NOT Americaunas/ Araucanas. I have the DH doing it too. And he doesn't even really like chickens. He will lean over and whisper "those aren't TRUE Ameraucanas" and I have to giggle.

I don't even know if I have ever actually seen one of these ellusive, "True Ameraucanas"

Haha. I actually might have one, as I got it at the Canby Ppoultry Swap last year. And she doesn't look like my other 6 EEs (akk different looking, but kinda similar) and her eggs are true blue....so maybe...
