Does anyone know of a good hatchery to use or know anyone with ducklings available apparently my order from the grange was misplaced

I am hatching Welsh Harlequins and muscovies. Got my latest batch drying in the incubator as I type. But I'm not a fancy-shmancy breeder. I only do about 10-14 at a time from my own birds in a tabletop still air incubator. So if you're looking for something with a five-word-description for a color and breed type, I'm not your gal. We're just humble homestead folk.

Holderread's Waterfowl Farm is the place you want to go for ducklings. http://holderreadfarm.com

Holderreads has very nice stock, but they are very expensive. If she was getting hatchery ducklings, then there are several of us on here that could likely fulfill her needs for considerably less money than Holderreads. ;)

They are expensive, but they also have the best stock. No hatchery and very few breeders have the quality Dave does. *shrugs* When i make a recommendation I try to only recommend the very best, that way nobody is ever disappointed with the recommendation.

Just saying that yes it's an option, but an expensive one and not the only one. Not to mention that if she wasn't already on a waiting list, there would be a slim chance of getting anything from them this year.
Which is also why I asked what breed(s) she was looking for. Dave has been cutting back in recent years and doesn't have the numbers he used to. If she's looking for, say, Swedish...I have ducklings due to hatch next week, and Holderreads doesn't carry those. And I have a friend selling out of his Mallards, another breed Holderreads doesn't have. One of my 4H kids has East Indies from Dave, that are extremely nice. Lots of options out there... ;)

I know, I think it's tragic that he has had to cut down so much over the past decade. He and Mille have given so much to the poultry world over the years, and are such wonderful people it's a horrible shame that economics are causing such a cut back. I just hope that some of the people who got the birds that left the farm put even 1/10th of the time effort and passion into it, I suspect that many of them will degenerate in the hands of less knowledgable and experienced breeders, but that happens with all varieties and breeds.

I'm just glad to see more waterfowl people in general.

Happy hatching.

Anyone interested in a German New Hampshire or a Delaware Cockeral? Pic. of the GNH does not do his colour justice, these birds just glow!! The Del. is really wide, not a good pic, he is standing on tip toe. Thinning the flock and I think these boys are too nice to butcher but that is their destiny if they don't sell soon! Both were sent to me from Florida as day old chicks last October. PM me any questions or an offer. No serious bites on Craigslist :(

I have a question. If i breed my BCM's (both hatched from the eggs I got from AyeUpChuck) is that OK. Would that be inbreeding? I feel like a dork for asking but I just want to add a couple more hens and I don't want mutants!

You should be fine for one generation, after that I generally don't recommend sibling matings. Stick to sire/daughter or son/dam or grandsire/grand daughter etc
