Oregon

I asked my son " Norman, Feathers or Peanut butter" and he said PB! But he's ten it's not as cute.

My daughter insisted on three things this morning:
1. Her white crayon was broken because it wouldn't color on white paper.
2. She had to wear 1 duck and 1 Santa slipper.
And 3. Norman is silly. And his name Is totally peanut butter. Norman by the way is the name of her stuffed naked mole rat toy she got at the zoo. Lol

My 11 yr old son named the chick that the breeder says she thinks is a rooster. It is darker than the others and his name is Shadow. My 9 yr old daughter named the very smallest chick Lily. We have two that are not named yet and I named the biggest chick. She has to be from a prior batch because she is twice the size of the rest. She is also loud and annoying. We got these chicks for eggs, due to allergies in the family chicken meat is not cooked here. Her name however, is KFC.

And who can say no to this face???

Karen, the stuffed naked mole thing is creepy. >shivers< We named him Peanut Butter and the pullet's name is Jelly. I will have to get pictures of them tomorrow between rain showers.

fingbob, he may not be as cute, BUT he has good taste!

Need help.....got a hen sitting on eggs for over 21 days. Haven't tried to candle any, but think they are duds. Got them on EBay . What I need is a few chicks to stick under her so she will be a happy hen. Everyone has quit selling baby chicks in central Oregon, anyone know of any place in central Oregon still having baby chicks? I've called hatcheries and they say 5 weeks till they can ship. Need them now, or just tell her to get off the nest and back to laying.;P
Where are you. I've got some banty project chick eggs that are hatching, and I don't want the black or buff ones.

Yay, I got my first quail egg today.
The hen turned 37 days old today.

I started with 7, one died early on, out of the 6 that were left, there were 3 boys, and 3 girls. One of the girls died three days ago on friday, due to being scalped.

2 girls left and 3 boys. Oh, and 25 cot jumbo eggs in the incubator. today is day 10. 7 days to go.

Thanks for listening.

Karenmyrrh - our ladder roost had the rungs located at 14.5 inches apart - and if the birds are all facing the right direction - it's a perfect distance. However, if one bird (always "Chicken Nugget") is facing the wrong direction, he spends the evening with her beak in another of the girls cloacas. No bueno.

If I had it to do over again, with our ladder roost at its (Approximately 45 degree angle) I'd put them at 16 inches apart. That would give it the extra couple inches needed to keep them apart. Right now, thankfully - they've figured it out. They sit on the roost with their butts to the high end, which works well for them.

Have fun with the chickens - they're a kick. They are a bit on the noisy side, particularly when one is in the nestboxes and the other one wants that exact nestbox (even though there are 2 others) I think that was more the comment about the complaints. If that is right outside the neighbors window, you'll hear it. Where there's no one in it now, that will make it easier. Just a deal of, don't like it - don't buy it. :)

Our neighbors have been fabulous. Couldn't have asked for better.

Congrats on the egg!! We had courtnix quail for a while, were raising them in wire rabbit cages, one male to two females. They were constantly scalping eachother, we finally gave up :( Once a little blood is drawn they can not resist the red (just like chickens) and kill eachother. Maybe a more natural environment would have worked better but our way of trying to raise them did not! They were certainly adorable and the eggs were so much fun, pickled quail eggs, yummmm!
