About the sun allergy.... I had a much more mild case when I was in my 20s. It came about rather suddenly and only happened under certain conditions. But I got hives, fever, and itching. I met an older woman that recognized it and told me to stay TOTALLY out of the sun for 48 hours and the symptoms would disappear -- until the next time. She was right. After a few years the problem went away. I hope your daughter's allergy will go away with time, too.

ETA: Sunscreen didn't help me at all.

Here's what we ended up with for a ladder. We'll see if it works. . We were able to get them in it last night. Still have a lot to do. Gotta add the nest boxes and some trim. But I couldn't let them stay in the garage any longer. They needed some fresh air.

Side question: do they eventually figure out the coop and roost bars are where they sleep? They seemed pretty upset with the rehoming last night.

You might need to "put them to bed" for a few nights. Meaning, after they are quiet, move them to the roosts where *you want them* to sleep.

It seems to me that chickens are mighty habitual and it is hard to break a habit once they've got a habit. It seems to me ducks are like this, too.

Does anyone have any suggestions for finding a new home for a young rooster. He's been listed on craigslist, a homeschool list, a freecycle type list and put a note on a board at the feed store but no takers so far and I need him placed soon as he's crowing a lot and we arent allowed roosters in the city and I dont want to loose my chicken permit. thanks for any ideas, I am in Albany. -Lisa

PS he's a 7 week old, black and white, easter egger

Do you have a small animal auction anywhere in your area? If so, that would be one solution.

My friends cat brought a duckling in the house. I guess it isn't hurt but they want me to help rehome it. Is there anyone out there that would like a duckling. I will have it in my possession tonight so I can take pictures.

How old? I need more feather footed like a hole in the head but, DD's OEGB is sitting on duds. She is not giving up so I may need to give her a couple so she is done by fair.
They are hatching now. Some are a day old, some two days, some not out of shells yet. I live on Savage Creek RD, on the way to Rogue River. Lynn @541-582-3998. Take as many as you want. I haven't seen a lemon from this hatch yet, and that's what I want.

I think the coop is great! I would love to have it in my yard, lol. Leslie is spot on, it may take a couple of nights, or a week, but they will get it. I have a rooster that I bought at 9 months that was allowed to sleep under the porch. I thought he would NEVER get it. It took 8 nights before I went out and spent a half hour looking for him just to find him in the coop.
