Is there anyone in the central/eastern Oregon area that has baby chicks available right now? Preferably within about three hours of Fossil (my transportation options are limited, as I can't afford a vehicle that can be driven out of town).

I know someone hatching today and next week. In Bend. They are cochin silkie and delucces.

Bob, it was VERY filling and VERY tasty. The dog is still drooling over the smell, but he didn't get any.

I like to make pancakes with extra eggs for a better ratio of protein.

The chicken egg customers are being cautious about the duck eggs so we're using those, but as the flock slows down for the winter, they might not have as much of a choice.

That sounds yummy! I'd like to get two ducklings (both female), either Khaki Campbell, Ancona or Welsh Harlequin this spring. I'm still researching and looking for someone selling them nearby.

I have Indian Runners and Khaki Campbell available now, if anyone is interested. One male of each, and several females. I also have an extra Rouen mix male. The Rouens lay the bigger eggs, so making a mini flock with him and the other two breeds could produce interesting offspring.

Sure. I don't intend to have ducklings, but might still have some of the extras by then. I'm hoping not, but you never know.

Well that explains a few things! I was spending quality time with the flock today trying to spot more cockerels that are ready to move to the grow out coop ... they get to stay as long as they behave ... And I figured out my BA rooster has a twin. The older guy is finishing a rough molt, and I've been confused by their comings and goings ... Today I finally figured it out. Duh! I feel so dumb.

I remember the older BA male took forever to show his gender so nobody believed me he was male. I can't even figure out which approximate hatch his twin is from. He is pretty big ...

I wondered the same thing so I keep checking under the coop and in every corner of the coop...nothin'!

We have an egg!! Woohoo!!! It's been nine days since she laid her last one. And other than her vent being red and swollen, she seemed fine. Full of energy as always. But I kept an eye on her anyway. This morning when I opened the pop door to let the girls out, she was right there to greet me as usual. So I pinned her to check her out. Vent was back to a healthy pink. And sure enough there was an egg in the coop. Now of course I'm making the assumption that it was hers. I do have a BR that could start laying any day now. And this egg was more pinky brown than the toasty brown my red star usually lays... But, I'll take it!
