We are having a few more rats this year. My young cats are almost 4 so I guess they are slacking a bit. I may try the peanut butter ball idea... let us know if it works for you! I made a rodent proof feeder which I like a lot but I have some broody apartments in my shed next to my main coop that are throwing out quite a bit of food and feeding the rodents.

This is the feeder... the chickens peck at the trigger to feed themselves, it is really adorable : )

Interesting feeder. My Alpacas would be in LOVE with that! They are my biggest scavengers! A couple of them like the chicken feed more then their own feed. And if I am not standing there will push the chickens out of the way and clean the plate in a second.
I was unable to make the PB balls tonight. 2 of my 7 week chicks disappeared...They were loose in the yard and when I went to collect them 2 of the roos were not there. I am guessing they found a spot to sleep for the night. I am hoping they show up for breakfast. I do not want to leave the balls out if any of the chicks are loose.
Tonight my neighbor who does not kill anything said tonight she was thinking of calling an exterminator to get rid of some of the rats...OMG!!!

Anyone close to Amity want an 11 week old Barred Rock Rooster? He's beautiful, just started crowing. I'm sure his singing voice will improve... Was hoping he would still turn out to be a she but I think we're sure now. Lol

Hello all!!
I live in McMinnville. :) I'm so glad I found this site where I have learned so much already. I'm new to raising chickens. I currently have 16 week old Silkies and none have started crowing yet....whew!! I can't keep a Roo where I'm living so will have to re-home any Roos I end up getting. I'm super excited about my all time first batch of Orpington's I have in my bator!! :) I have 9 eggs on Day 19. Hoping for the best!

Cool, I am just hatching some more Silkies now. I hatched 2 before and the roo crowed when he was 4 days old, I couldn't believe it. He did stop then till a couple months later. Good luck with your hatch!

Welcome! That makes us practically neighbors! We got our first 6 chicks at Wilco in Mac this year. 1 of them is my Roo... Darn it! Lol

I'm in Salem! We have 4 chickens and it looks like two are Roos :( Looking to replace them soon with two more hens, as my daughters will be devastated to rehome their pets
