Thank you for the information! I saw a vendor on the facebook page describing their "very blue layers" they have been perfecting, and they included photos of the eggs they have been getting, so I am pretty interested in talking with them.
I do need to be better with my networking, but most contacts I come across seem to be in either the Portland area or Medford area, which are both hours from where I live, and it is hard for me to justify paying for gas on top of whatever I may be paying for the chicks (which would still be cheaper than paying shipping), which is one reason I am looking forward to the swap--having the opportunity to meet so many in one place and hopefully maybe learn of some that may be more local to me.

If there are birds you really want you may want to find some presales so you dont make the trip to the swap and come away empty handed

There is a pdf on this page of the vendors listed at the Poultry Swap. It's interesting to see what breeds are popular in Oregon (lots of Silkies and Olive Eggers). I'm looking for Silver Laced Polish -- nada. zip. zilch. Oh well -- I'm fine with Coastal chicks, if they ever get them in.

Silkies really do seem to be the popular breed. I like them well enough, but probably not for my flock (and my husband does not like them). Bantam breeds seem to be very popular around here, whereas typically standard breeds (like buff orpingtons) seem harder to find unless you get them from a feed store.

Oh my! If my sweetie worked at a store that had chicks we'd be in BIG trouble!

We are looking for 3 -- we were ok with straight run from the feed store, and hoping for 2 pullets and a cockerel (as I want fertilized eggs, eventually, and one of those nice roosters I keep hearing rumors about, ha ha!).

We are in Oakridge, but willing to travel. Sorry, not to Portland. The traffic gives me flashbacks to my former commuter life and I just can't do it anymore.

There are a few. The one that would be the most difficult to get would be the mosaic (only one breeder has specified they are taking those), and I have considered ayam cemani, but I have read mixed reviews on aggressiveness. The others I am looking for that aren't quite as difficult to come by are lavender orpingtons, cream legbar, and perhaps some marans and Easter Eggers. I am open to either hatching eggs or chicks.

Check out Three Good Reasons Farm on Facebook. I know nothing about their farm, but they have all the breeds you're looking for, and sell chicks and hatching eggs, and will ship. They are located in Tenmile, near Roseburg. They will be at the swap.

Hi! I just wanted to update you about my eggs. Thank you for your help with finding a quality breeder. I ended up getting half my eggs from Sheri - and finally got to meet her. She is amazing. Really friendly and such a nice person. Love her philosophy regarding chickens. Anyway, I got 7 eggs each of Lavender Ameraucana and Black Copper Marian from Sheri. I also got 8 Dominique Heritage and 7 Lavender Orpington from other breeders. I thing I might end up with a few more than my original plan of 6 hens and 1 rooster. . Thanks again for your help.

So, good thing I popped in there today.....turns out they were supposed to get the slp with last weeks order, dh tells me there are still some left so I went to take a look and see silver laced..... wyandottes..... still waiting for the polish, will update you when they come, possibly this week.
