I read a book that was published in the 50's on chicken husbandry and the geneticist in the book said he kills all sniffers, sneezers and coughers when working poultry. Having dealt with a nasty cured/carrier disease with a friend I am for culling it hurts in the short term but you learn something invaluable in the long term. I think a carrier disease is worse than one that kills if you think about it. I hope whatever it is/was is gone for good.

Thanks for the responses. After some more observation and contacting the old owner , we decided it was best to cull the bird.
Chickens do not get colds. Most of the times respiratory infections in chickens are not good.
Wbruder, congrats on getting in to BUFA.
Anyone have Chicks right now? Mine are now in the half fuzz half feathered homely phase.

Dear me all this sick chicken business

well we are probably culling our foamy eye bird and taking the other two to a vet this sat..
If need be I will cull the little red one too bless our wyandottes who are healthy..only one had the sniffles/wheeze but that was cured with duramycin a month ago..
she is a ok the other two are impervious to whats been going on..

never did cull Hermione..

we rehomed her..as dumb luck would have it a co worker of mine has lost most of her old hens to age and she only wants a couple of big girl chickens. After suffering about 3 major personal losses last week. I just couldnt kill her.. it was the intent..the advice and rational every person has given here is rock solid

... its just I couldnt break anymore little people hearts..

for what its worth the lady has a nephew that was in vet school and she said he would look her over ..if she needed to go she would go...I did request that when the hen dies that we send the body to OSU for a necropsy..
her eye is better the lady said after being treated with some herbal eye drops?? and her husband has a pet chicken..he apparently loves the thing and it kinda likes him back
