[Chicken Rustler]

A shout out from the Central Oregon Coast... Just wanted to say hi to all the Oregon peeps out there. I'm new to raising chickens. I'm exited to have found such an awesome forum. If anyone is near Florence, my wife and I would love to learn from a seasoned chicken person.

Yes! finally some chit chat. We must have al been tu busy watching chicks or building new coops. I built another small coop all from recycled wood for my Black and blue copper marans chicks. When i get the finishing touches on i'll share here.

Lovely weather were having here in Portland this evening. Is Grimm on tonite? It feels like a dinner and movie at home night. Chickens are snuggled in the coop. Pheasants aren't too happy, but if they could "find their butts with both hands" as Chickendad likes to put it, they would figure out that there's nice covered perching areas available.

LOL That's hilarious about the pheasants!! I tried raising pheasants last year and couldn't stand the stupid things!!

Two questions for you all... (and don't make me have to drag this over to the swap thread just to get a conversation,

, lol)
First, I have a darling little serama roo (Zoomummzy lines) but he has started flogging my 5 year old DD when she tries to feed/gather eggs/ etc in his cage. Outside his cage he is fine. Since she's starting to be scared of him (still working at being brave with him and handling him) I feel bad but I think he needs to find a new home. He's lived in the house and is a June hatched baby. I will figure out something if he doesn't find a home. He is white with black feathers (pictures of him as youngster in my file.) And I thought I had a plan for extra roos - but, I am soooo not eating "Fence" (that's what my daughter named him), ewww. He's a house pet, sigh. He has a nice serama strut/stance for sure.

Second, best ideas/threads for either making my own nestboxes (6 to 8) or for purchasing them. My totally awesome husband and friends have my 8x12 poultry house floor, walls, and part of roof up. (It will take me until summer to do the lino, door, and "furnishings" lol. But so excited.

Making your own nest boxes is super easy. You just need some plywood, a saw, and some nails or screws. Just design the size you want, cut the wood and nail them together.

Craigslist is great for rehoming roos. Or you can take them to The Urban Farm Store on Belmont in Portland and there is a guy there who is a no-kill re-homer of roos. Nice guy.

There's a guy in NE Portland looking for a roo. He has 2 small banties. He contacted me about my roo that I'm trying to rehome, but I don't think its ideal for my guy.

Well I really hate to break this to ya but if that little rooster is layin eggs fer yer DD to collect. You really should find a way to keep him. Them eggs gonna bring some MAJOR $$$

As for nest boxes I would say if you can put them on the outside with outside access doors for collecting eggs. Sorry that's all the help I can be.
