Chicken eggs are amazing........Power outage and all, 3 days before lockdown, one of my best hatches ever, 20 happy healthy chicks out of 21 eggs. Wanted to share a pic of two of the olive egger prospects....... Wheaten Marans Mommy x Lav. Ameraucana Roo (hatched from one of Cloverleaf's lovely blue eggs last March)

Sweeeeeeeet! thanks for sharing Zanna.

Now I hear a lot of talk of melanizers and over melanized marans. Can someone explain to me what it is and how it works? I can't find any good photos to help me understand it. Im a visual learner.

My Cochin, Daphne has benn sitting on the eggs I bought for her for 2 weeks. I lost 4 eggs due to squable over the favorite nest box but still have 4 left. I made her a temporary nest out of a pet carrier and a portable run I bought from some folks who made a bigger one. If I had done this first i probably would not have lost the 4 eggs. She sure is determined to stay on those eggs. I hope we get a couple pullets out of this, buy even if I don't it's been fun to watch!

My ducks, pheasants, and Chickens all get the same foodstuffs. Layer feed, 6-grain scratch treat, and tablescraps, worms, etc. They are "Robust", shiny and laying an egg a day each, so I feel all is good.
