Thank you for the offer, I don't think I want anything with Silkie in it. They are very beautiful and fluffy, and I like to look at them, but I don't want one of my own.

I agree, I don't want one of my own!

Countrybuff and Nonscenztor, I totally understand. But just FYI, the first generation of a Silkie crossed eith a non-Silkie produces a blue skinned, usually 5 toed baby with NORMAL feathers. They are not fluffy like full Silkies. You will start to see some Silkie feathering if a Silkie cross is then crossed again with a Silkie. So the babies I have, have 5 toess, blue skin and normal feathers, plus "mohawk" feathers and feet feathering. Super cool birds, really.

Yesterday was so nice and sunny, I let the chickens out into the "wild". Now today it is miserable again and they have to stay in. Whenever this happens they always hang around the door and complain, I really think they believe it is always sunny and nice just on the other side of that magical door!

Sounds like a pretty cool bird. I like dark skinned birds and I absolutely adore CRESTS! I have one Polish Wayandotte cross with a really nice crest, and so far, one 3 week old Icelandic that's just getting her crest growing in. Got 13 more eggs (all from a crested Icleandic) to go into lock down in 3 days - so I'm hoping for more crested babies. ( pure Icelandics and 3 Icelandic Ameraucana crosses.

ANYONE IN PORTLAND

I shall be coming down there with Himself on Friday to "raid" an art store on S. E Hawthorne. I don't know Portland, so was wondering if anyone in the area can recommend a great place for lunch. I don't mind if it's on the expensive side, but the food must be top notch - even if it's just burgers (There's NO great restaurants here in Olympia).

Hope its okay to market on this thread. I've got Lavender Ameraucana chicks. The dad is Pips and Peeps, the moms are Blehm/Shaffer lines. Straight run, $5 ea.

I'm in St. Helens which is about 45 min from Portland, Delivery can be arranged.

Great places to eat in SE Portland for lunch: The Detour Cafe on Division and about 28th or so. Our first choice, always.

Jam on Hawthorne is supposed to be awesome, but I've never eaten there.

Por Que No? On upper Hawthorne. Excellent authentic Mexican, and across the street has...

To die for Deli sandwiches at East Side Deli on Hawthorne, eat at a restaurant, take sandwiches home with you.

Oh, I do so love how my plan works, NOT. Needed broody silkie few weeks ago - nada, don't need one now and have two broody. Just tossed about dozen call duck eggs (not fertile) and set another dozen (not hopeful). sigh.... BUT, on a fun note 2 of my saxony eggs are pipped and it is only day 27. Guess practical beats fun when you are wanting ducks.
