I do not believe Oxine kills bugs but it is a fantastic disinfectant. I use it to clean my incubators, brooders, etc.

Yes, I have found that mites and fleas are inevitable as well, no matter how much I clean the coop. I dust with Sevin about 2x a year, or whenever I see them on the birds.... I check them often now and I have taken care of the worst of them... at first, I really didn't want to use Pesticides, but after trying a million other things, I decided to bite the bulllet and use the stuff. Itss just easier to manage and control the issue when you have a large flock. If I only had 2 or 3 birds, I would try to be more organic about it, but bathing and Poultry Protector on 25+ birds is just too much work and maintenance.

If you have chickens you have mites or lice usually lice. I have/had them and when someone say I don't have them I usually pick up their bird and find one... usually. I dust about 3 times a year and as needed but I have anywhere from 30 to 200 birds at one time.

How old do chicks need to be before you can dust them with Sevin? I have some 4 week olds, and they have bugs. I want to dust them, but don't want to do it if they are too young....
