I like to bathe every bird that leaves here, esp. if it is to also come back =:~), with the dog flea shampoo. I have cuties from the barn greckles (ugly wild birds) in one small section (1st stall in barn) that is a constant problem. No where else that I have found. I use the dog flea shampoo for the residual effect so I don't pick up something and bring it home. Also, if I am transferring a set of birds from my place to another's it is often in contact with a third party or four via a swap or show so this way the new owner has a week of some repellent properties. When I had rabbits I would ivormec them on thursday before a weekend show for same reasons. I don't worry about someone getting 'nervous' about the eggs or meat with the shampoo as much, but would need to inform the buyers if Ivomec was used...... two cents in. k/

I have never tried it myself, but since I have a white bird I show a lot I'd figure I'd ask. Normally I use baby shampoo. I also heard some people use Dawn because it has bluing in it? Is that true? Because I'd much rather use that then bleach if it makes my bird whiter. Another person I know used bluing with her Columbian Rocks, she said it worked.

I believe Bluing is in the quicksilver horse shampoo that Cloverleaf recommended. Straight bluing needs to be used very sparingly or you will have purple tinted birds Does anyone use anything after bathing/drying to replace the natural oils washed away?

As far as replacing oils, no, I haven't found anything you can use in large enough quantities to matter that doesn't gum up the feathers. I also do not blow dry my birds (except Silkied birds) for the reason of being too drying on their feathers...

I blow dry my Frizzle and that helps her look way nicer as well as helps her feathers curl toward her head.

For shows during the cold season, how do you keep them warm while waiting for them to air dry?

I though some of you might like to see my new Doberman puppy. See, just like I told you: same same.





I drove all the way to Salem and the people with the Doberman puppies stood me up. That turned out to be great luck because this week, this lovely red merle boy was in need of a new home. The poor fellow is stressed about losing his home and family but I can tell that he is going to fit in well here.

The trip to Salem wasn't a total waste of time. I came home with 6 Midget White poults and a half grown Midget White tom. Let me tell you that 7 turkeys in a car for nearly 4 hours with the heater going stink something awful.

Nice looking Dobie! How can people do that just get rid of a furry family member. Would they do same with their kids ??? Hopefully you have some experience with Aussies. They take a little special care and especially if they have lost their family.
