A place where a buy a lot of my vitamins and supplements for myself is vitacost.com and they have Dynamic Health Apple Cider Vinegar with the "mother" for $1.82 for 16 oz.

They also have Bragg's but it's $4.20 but it is 32 oz. Here at our local health food store it's like $4.99 I think for the 32 oz. of Bragg's. I haven't checked our local GNC or anything.

i just by the store brand ( i tihnk it's a 2 lt jug, canadian lost in the u.s still trying to convert thing's) all of my animals get it every day, didn't think of putting it in the chickens water....what is too young to start them at?

I started my ACV regime with week old chicks. They had it from their first week on, it really supports their gut flora, which are just getting started while they're young.

Wondering if I can mix the ACV with the bleach water that I always use to start out my chicks, baby ducks, baby geese, and any other fowl that I start out from babies? I use chlorine bleach,(like you put in your wash), just a splash, maybe 1/2 tsp. to one of the plastic gallon waterers. I have always done this and have never lost a baby. I use this solution until they are between 6 and 8 weeks, and then just go to regular water. An old timer here in WV taught me that trick. I guess maybe then I could start with the ACV??
This is a great subject as I just started putting ACV in my adult chickens water today.!! I read about it in a copy of my back yard poultry mag. It says 1 TBL. per gallon, but seeing as how they have never had that in their water before I went a little lighter on the vinegar. I don't know what kind of sense of taste or smell chickens have. Didn't want them to not drink their water. LOL Braggs here in our area of WV at the GNC runs 2.79 for a 16 oz. bottle. But have copied down the recipe to make a bigger batch.

Don't mix the ACV with bleach water, just clean regular water.
1-2 Tablespoons per gallon of water. 1-2 teaspoons per quart.

I would think you could start chicks on ACV water at about 1-2 weeks.
Others may know better.

I think this really helps my chickens stay healthy.

Good luck!

I was thinking of trying the recipe, but I'm really not sure it's worth it. It looks like you basically end up with twice the amount you start wit, correct? Seeing as how you have to buy the apple juice I'm not sure I'd really save all that much.

Apple cider vinagar from the grocery store is not the same as what we are talking about here.
I bought a gallon at health food store and used half to make my own. Each time I go to use that gallon I made i will half it and make another gallon.

If you use frozen apple juice it does make the cost considerably less ! 2 cans of frozen apple juice costs about $3.00 if it is not on sale. I bought mine for $1 a can on sale.

The origanal gallon cost me $12.00. So whan I make my own I never have to buy it again. It's basically a one time purchase if you continue to use one gallon and have one fermenting in a dark pantry at the same time.

Hope that you understand what IM trying to say. it has worked really well for me.

By the way I did use it in a galvanized waterer in the begining because I didn't know any better. within 6 months it started rusting ! You do not want to use a galvanized waterer if it is rusting as it is leaching toxins into the water. Vinagar is an acid and will greak down galvanized containers over time.

I know people aren't talking about the regular ACV. I have been buying, organic, raw, unpasteurized.

I just found some recipes that may be more cost effective.
