Hi, I am raising cornish cross and trying to feed organic feed only. However I am having a hard time finding anything over 18 percent protein that is organic. Is 18 percent normal for organic feeds? Is that why store bought organic poultry is generally smaller? Also anyone have any recommendations for feed. I am using natures best starter/grower.

Plenty of organic feed thats above 18% around here. We buy 28% turkey starter and 22% chick starter regularly. Maybe there just isn't a market for organic feeds in your area and so they stock stock a few bags of layer for the few and far between?

If you can find a dealer that sells Nutrena feeds, you can order Nutrena NatureSmart Organic Chick Starter Grower. It's 20% protein. It my area, a 40lb bag is $25.25. Or you can boost the protein in the 18% feed with meal worms, BOSS, or split field peas. Fermenting the feed is said to raise the percentage of available protein. Even if you choose not to ferment, a wet mash reduces wasted feed, which is important to me due to the high cost of organic feed.
