Organic feed

We had a horse a few years ago and the fence we built for her enclosed the chicken pen. I free-range when I can and I figured the chickens would pick and scratch through the manure. Imagine my shock and horror when the birds ATE IT ALL!! I was told that because the horse has such an inefficient digestive system, there were still lots of nutrients in it and that it would hurt the chickens. Still- it was gross to watch them.

I have an organic nursery/garden up the street. Elizabeth Annas organic garden is the name (not helpful in CO. though). Anyway... they sell organic chicken feed there. I was surprised to see organic feed at all, much-less at the place I go to get my plants/seeds from.

They keep chickens at the business and take a special interest though.

So my advise is maybe call an organic nursery and ask them if they have any ideas where you could find some, they may just be very helpful.

The organic feed is more expencive but I plan on gettting some and trying it out when what I have runs out.
