organic scratch & peck vs. purina

I agree about not trusting the media or the government. I do; however, put some faith into non-profit groups that are funded 93% by individuals and charitable foundations as the EWG is. I also agree about giving people info on current situations, which is why I posted to the contrary earlier when the "fact" presented was completely false.

I am in dallas too...where is the semi-local feed store you use?

It is at D&L Feed in Denton. There is also a location in Mckinney, but they don't carry the H&H, but they could get it from the other store. I live near downtown, so the distance to either place is just about the same for me. Let me know if you decide to start using it and maybe we can alternate trips to pick it up or something.

If you email H&H, they will send you samples. They do ship the food, but it costs more than the food itself.

i'm interested in having it shipped to CA as it looks much better than the organics i feed, how much is shipping per-bag?

This is their online retail presence. I want to say it costs $20 to ship it, but I don't remember. You can plug in your info and get a shipping price to your location.

Total ignorance. Typical.

I wish I could find organic feed around here. Non-organic chicken feed is full of GMO soy and GMO corn. I'd love to not be feeding GMO crap to my chickens, which will ultimately end up in me.
If and when I'm able to locate an affordable, local source of organic feed I will absolutely switch. As of now, I have found nothing but Purina. No other options at all.

Hmmm. I grow entirely organic and the interesting thing is that I have so many good bugs I rarely worry about bad bugs. Right now, I have a few aphids on my long beans because my soil is too rich, but they are strong enough and I found a praying mantis eating them today. I've sprayed the aphids with plain water a few times and it's kept the population down to where the good bugs can handle it.
Also, a little diamectaceous earth goes a long way towards insect control.
I grow a few things for my chickens, too. Mainly sprouts (fenugreek, mung beans) , chard, kale, amaranth and also give them bolted lettuces, tomatoes, and other herbs and veggies from my garden. Plus the hornworms.

He is my 100lb 7yr old giant schnauzer. He did phenomenal with the chickens today!! Wasn't even super interested in them. By the afternoon, I was letting him go out in the back yard by himself (he has a dog door) and just watching from the window. Half the time, he didn't even go over to the coop!

i have an airedale terrier and she's doing just great with the chickens too, it's so nice.

My Doberman is doing really well with my 7 week old chickens, too. We had a dog break into our yard and kill some of the jumbo crosses. If it hadn't been for my Doberman protecting her flock, we would have lost them all. She's very maternal and protective over them. I'm very surprised at how motherly she's been, since she's spayed.
