Organic, soy-free chicken feed?

cause we buy it pre made.

We have a local feed store, that mixes all local grains.
The Barley is from various places around Alaska, and the fishmeal comes from Kodiak.
We have thought about doing it ourselves, but we are unable to get the fishmeal at a reasonable price.
Barley we could buy, for $300 per ton if we wanted though.
Its grown up in the Delta Junction area.

my dh tends to pick up the mix that some corn added to it more often then not, due to finances right now.
Its such a small amount though, I usually can't even find it in the mix.
So, its just Barley, fishmeal, grit and oyster shell, plus a bit of corn sometimes.

Well.... I have orange yolks too, but I use soy as my protein. Fish meal is not an option here

Personally, I think soy will be fine in moderation for all (unless you are having health problems. You wouldn't give a AA member a beer in moderation would you?)

Plus, my family makes 1/2 it's income on soybeans

Well, I just started this thread asking to find help in locating soy-free, organic feed with no type of judgement or ridicule of soy, anyone's eating choices, or anyone's livelihood. I didn't "put myself out there" or request anyone else to do so. We all come from different places and I am who I am and pretty much appreciate my privacy -- especially online.

My daughter is allergic to peanuts and my son is allergic to strawberries. For lots of people those are perfectly fine foods but not for them. I should be able to ask -- in an appropriate forum -- where to find peanut-free and strawberry-free foods for them without any flack, just as I should have been able to not get any "commentary" on this thread.

Just my $0.02. In all due respect, that is.

Seriously? There is commentary on EVERY thread!

Anyway, I am trying to find soy-free food and have had no luck. Since I only have 5 ducks, I don't want to order a ton of food at a time for a custom mix. We have a Big R opening across the street in the next couple on months. I plan on driving them crazy with my requests for soy-free feed.

The folks I can get soy-free eggs from and some feed also have ducks and they have soy-free feed for the wee little duckies as well. In fact, a couple of their duckies are going "in the freezer" soon so I'm going to buy one since my dd wants duck and lamb for her b'day. (Sheesh, I think I had pizza for my 8th b'day party! Kids these days...)

You just accidentally touched on a VERY hot topic right now. As people become more aware of issues with genetically modified crops and then realize the alternatives are so hard to find, it just makes for a lot of frustration. The lack of alternatives is driving me a little nutty. I am not sure if it is the lack of alternatives, or the way the people at the feed store stare at me like I just sprouted an extra head when I ask if they have soy-free alternatives

THis is just a very hot and touchy subject, so it tends to pull in both sides very strongly.
Those of us against it, have very good and legitiment reason for it.
For so many, their health is literally at stake.
And I am sure you totally get that.
I have food allergies too

And, I have a serious issue with my thyroid and adrenals, that can be directly linked back to soy formula.
The other side will tell my I am full of hot air though, LOL!

That said though, I am more then willing to try Natto (sp?) someday, if I can find a good source for it.
Any other version? No way!
