Oriental Gamefowl Thread!

My poor little Shamo stag got picked on by his much smaller brother(s) so I brought him in for some tlc. Can rooster Shamos be okay as pets? The other birds go to my friend but I really don't want him getting harassed. He's the biggest, the most docile, and sweet, and apparently subordinate to the others. It didn't take him long to stop crying for his mom and snuggle with me. Now he's my buddy :)

Also any idea what color he'll end up looking like? He's a few days shy a month old. (Hatch date january 4/5)

I feel so bad that he got in a fight and got so badly roughed up…eh... I mean I know it's LIGHT compared to a lot of incidents I've seen on here and with adult birds but I still don't like them getting hurt.

I'm hoping these two will eventually get along. The little brown girlie is my OEGB mix pullet (well i'm like 99% sure she's a she). Even though he's bending down he;s muuuuch bigger. btw they do NOT live on the carpet I put them down for the photo.

Thanks for any help =)

As a pet, not with other roosters - They're super. Probably the best "pet-like" chicken out there. Last batch of Shamos I raised, I had a little stag who strayed from the group to try his best to follow me absolutely everywhere, he was such a needy little guy it was adorable. My ( now deceased, eaten by dogs ) Shamo cock was also a needy sweetheart towards people. He especially if hungry or expecting something would come running at full speed from across the yard, and didn't mind even being handled by strangers. ( I never let them pick him up, but I let them hand-feed him or touch him while he was in my arms )

From what I see he looks like a mottled, which far as I know Shamos don't come in. Perhaps he's a BBR who hasn't gotten in his red coloration yet though.

Oh he's ^ ^ That was him at a few days old. He's most likely a mutt of them I guess, but I did see a few of the possible stags he came from. As far as I could tell my friend only had orange and red colored ones and a few other shades. (Maybe a black one with red and greenish sheen)

This was the batch of chicks he hatched with. They all grew the Asil/shamo type body and beak. The blacks stayed black, the yellows got light partridgey. The yellows both turned out cockerels and one or two of the blacks are. The two that hatched "husky-like" are cockerels too I believe, he was one of them.

I did find a picture online of a black Asil with white mottling like him a little, on some Asil lovers website.

He is really big though. All of the others are at least a head shorter and his body is really thick.

Thanks for the info =) yeah he's not going to be around any more roosters.

I am new to gamefowl but not chickens in general. I just picked up this Brazilian at the last poultry show I attended. I love the looks of the gamefowl. I am wanting to get some Ko Shamos as well. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what their personalities are like? Are they as calm as the other games? Do the males tend to be as aggressive with each other as the larger gamefowl?
