Oriental Gamefowl Thread!

I'm in need of some advice. My bantam rooster got into a fight through the wire with o Shamo hen. His beak right where it meets his face is swollen and the inside edge of his lower beak is turning black, and has a small yellow lump. He's eating and drinking fine, and doesn't seem like it hurts too bad. What should I do. I've already gave him some injectable tylan 50. It's been 4 days and he isn't showing any signs of improvement. I'll see if I can get a pic

You can try some neosporin......and try to get him to eat some live culture yogurt blended with finely chopped whole grain bread, this will help to replace probiotic bacteria in his gut that the Tylan killed. Best of luck to you!

Look like he has canker. Try antibiotic such as penicillin or Baytril for 3 days. Also, use canker pill for 4-5 days. You can buy canker in form of Fish Pen.

Over medicated!!!
He got in a fight buddy. He is going to be busted up! He didn't need stitches nor was his beak broken off. If he is eating and drinking leave him alone, in a quite pen to himself, to heal on his own. It will make him stronger not weaker. Next time if they are eating and drinking, be observant, and try just giving him plain Yogurt with Garlic to help with the stress and shock.

Good luck with him and easy on the Antibiotics....

Pen fights are nasty. A birds beak and even spurs can deliver some nasty bacteria. After any such encounter give 1cc of Penicillin. Throw the Tylan away; it is worthless.

Never leave a bird that has been in a bad pen fight to heal on his own. You can get a very bad infection of you do.

I'd agree with saladin, Tylan would be useless for that type of injury. The purpose of Tylan is to treat respiratory infections.

All injury will heal with time; but all infection will get worse with time. So infection is what we should watch for. I recommend to use 1cc penicillin but should be 3 days in a row. This is an antibiotic so the dose must be followed properly. Under-use antibiotic will not heal right and also make the bird gets use to the treatment and won't work in the future.
