Oriental Gamefowl Thread!

Pics
Oriental are beautiful but that beauty has a cost.
Few months ago i took my brood cock out of the pen to exorcise
He was on the line but i didn't make sure the line was strong enough to hold him
i went inside the house for a little bit when i got back he was loose fighting one of my crosses
I took fast action but i harry to soon to put it back in the pen.
When he was back in the pen he was still blind mad .
beating anything and everyone.
Thankfully I was there to handle the situation.
always keep your eyes on them and watch their behavior
Since all have different personally.

Ish here are some updated pics of the shamo
He has feathered in nicely

Hey Pop! I have two of them...in the last pic you can see a piece of one. They just aren't as pretty to look at! He's rather partial to them araucanas as well.....LOL
His birds are gorgeous for sure. He didn't have any ready when I was looking and I'm a tad impatient!

Lollipop,

What sets off such young Aseel chicks going into battle royal mode? My American game cockerels go at on day hen stops clucking (about 5 weeks post-hatch) and again at about 12 weeks but losses which are pretty rare occur only during the 12 week battle royal. As you indicate, having a mature male stops the 12-week old birds from getting down so hard but seems to have no affect on the 5-week old chicks.

I can`t tell ya what sets them off. Maybe a glint in ones eye will start 2 and the rest wanna play??? They have the same firey makup from the shell to the grave. That`s the beauty of Asils. Their attitude is always there. Fowl like Shamos are, as Julia Keeling (The Shamo Lady) says, "like big puddings", until they turn on. Brazilians are a bit more firey at a young age, but the Asil is dear to my heart. Ya just gotta be there.........Pop

centrarchid, just to clarify a bit, it`s the strength of the Asil that causes the damage. I believe that is the difference in the chick fights you describe.

Hey Walt and saladin, you guys are showmen, please tell me how they can say Asils should weigh 5.5 for cocks and 4.5 lbs for stags(if I remember what Walt said exactly). We all know they can weigh up to around 15 lbs with the deviding weight between Reza and Kulang at 3 ltr. I don`t show my birds for personal reasons, but who makes this stuff up, anyway?........Pop

Thanks Pop, I was wandering what sex it was going to be, dont know how to tell I'v never had this breed before, so you think it's a pullet, right ?

A pullet I hatched late this yr.
What color would you guys consider her?

I just call her laced, but want to know what you all think?
