Orphan Calve wont take bottle

Do you have a needless syringe you can squirt some pedialyte in the calfs mouth with....tilt the calfs head back until it swallows....not too far back and not too hard. Just enough to keep the liquid in and swallows it.

no but in the morning see if my husband will go to the co op when its open. the other cows outside was mooing and i could hear him answered back which to me sounds like a good sign since he's still active

He might just not like the taste of replacer, since that tastes nothing like what mama had. If your coop isnt drafty and he's dry he doesn't need a blanket or a heat lamp. If his poop becomes chaulky and pastey that is bad and will indicate acidosis (which is what'll happen if he dehydrates) Once he's good and hungry and he has no underlying conditions he'll drink. Most calves are generally not suicidal. I wouldn;t suggest tubing him if you can't afford to have a vet come out and show you how. Since as someone previously said you can get it down the windpipe and cause pneumonia (which is a pain in the butt and expensive to treat) Or puncture his gut. Does he get out of breath when you "fought" with him? And He can go close to 12 hours without drinking and not suffer terribly. Although its not ideal.

*ninja edit since I forgot how to type.

When I was a kid calves that were stuborn and wouldn't take the bottle, my parents would with me and my sister straddle the crap out of them LOL! My mom straddled there back my dad helped me and my sister hold the cow to a side, corner of the pen, my mom would pull the calfs head back and slip her fingers on the side of the mouth into it to get the calf to open she would put the nipple in and squeeze the bottle. The calf basically was forced to drink it, she would squeeze twice with the bottle and then let the cows head go back so it could breath/swallow and the process continued. Eventually they liked the replacer and just drank!
Let's just say me and my sister hated when there was a new calf that needed a bottle! We would have to get up with my parents in the morning

We also used 20/20 replacer.
