The mother duck had her ducklings by our pool, which is why our dog attacked them.Where were they along a river? Lake , pond
Definitely not a mallard. Could be a Khaki Campbell, but it also reminds me of a chocolate runner. Do you have any pictures of it standing? Here is a reference picture of my chocolate runner hen as a duckling:Almost makes me think KC let’s see who else may know. @Table4Six @MagpieDucks
Yes, but I first want to find out what breed it is.@KikiDeAnime could you keep the little one if it’s domestic?
It didn't stand like a runner. I've seen photos on here of runner ducklings.Definitely not a mallard. Could be a Khaki Campbell, but it also reminds me of a chocolate runner. Do you have any pictures of it standing? Here is a reference picture of my chocolate runner hen as a duckling:

The school a few blocks away has a ditch that collects rain water and I've seen lots of ducks and geese there. None looked like the mother duck though. Is your property fully fenced she had to of gotten in some how. You never seen her and her ducklings before. Do you live close to a water way.?
You can’t base the stance of a bird at this age to determine breed. It may not stand noticeably straight up, but this does not mean it is not a runner. Time will tell for sure. It is possibly a KC, or a chocolate runner. It could also very likely be a mix breed. It didn't stand like a runner. I've seen photos on here of runner ducklings.
