My fondness for chickens began with a stray BO I discovered in my pool one morning. I'd never even touched a chicken before! I scooped her up with the net & wrapped her in a towel then placed her in the sun. I went out to check on her often. A few hours later she was up & about. I fed her Kashi cereal for a few days until I realized she was staying & then found the feed store. That was 3 years ago come September. She is a darling & loves to sit on you while you rub her. She'll chatter away until she closes her eyes & gets her 40 winks. She is so cuddly!!

This years flock would NOT be complete without little Poppy joining (chick pic is my avatar). I wanted a super affectionate, goofy girl to add to my layers and tried so so so many feed stores, backyard hatcheries and craigslist ads trying to find a BO when pandemic shutdown started happening and chicken fever was running high. I managed to track down a feed store a few towns over that had chicks in, but didn't take holds, and like a madwoman packed my husband into the car without any explanation and zipped off. My anxiety was through the roof as I waited in line with my bucket to pick out a chick. Only -TWO- BO's left when it was my turn. The kids behind me wanted a BO so I only grabbed one (though I was very tempted to disappoint some children).

Her chirps sound like she's a smoker (I love her Emma Stone voice), she's the first to run over to me for treats and the one who likes to hang out with us on the patio. It's near impossible to get a good pic of her because she needs to be right in front of the lens. My flighty girls probably made her a little more anxious than most Orps, but I'm grateful to have a semi-lap chicken over none.

Cute!
They're a super cuddly breed.

The cockerels are just as cuddly, if not more.
Here is one of my buff chicks. 6 weeks.
She's my cuddle bug. She is a bit of a pancake.

I have 5 buff orpington chicks, can't wait until they're old enough to explore the yard! They're much friendlier than my leghorns and super calm, they don't freak out at all when picked up. I do notice they love to eat, like little chicken piglets :love
