*Orpington Leg Color Question!*

Chris, here you go-sorry about the blur, my close-up setting wasn't working right. Anyway, maybe you can tell they're white on the bottom. If I have to, I'll do it again and take put it on the normal setting. I'm dealing with bad bsmt lighting and a cruddy camera, too. And I've included a pic of the little tyke himself, at least I think it's a boy. The comb at two weeks is suddenly pretty large and starting to turn pink.

My chicks have a yellow tinge. Maybe that will go away? Yours are obviously white!!!! I posted this on another forum and got this as a reply for anyone interested in Orps. shanks.

"Both of the colours of orp you mention ought to have white soles. The orps with yellow feet should not really be used for breeding because the white skin gene is dominant. This means that while it is possible for a white skinned bird to carry a hidden yellow skin gene it is not possible for a yellow skinned bird to carry a white skin gene. Any bird bred from a yellow skinned bird would carry at least one yellow skin gene even if it didn't show. I have had chicks of white skin birds which appear to have yellowish shanks for a while when they're very small, but I'm pretty sure the yellow tinge has gone long before two months."

Edited because I cant get the Quote thingy to work lol.

I will probably sell them. I have a guy that wants some laying hens. I don't want to breed that in. I know that sometimes you can get throw backs. Its just a bummer. I was having a hard time deciding on the black roos, who to keep. Now it made it easier to decide. I guess it is like the single comb Wyandotte thing. You just have to cull(sell for pets) the ones that crop up.

So true that those decisions can suddenly be made more clear! Had that happen myself. We'll get you some more, though, and it wont be that long till March. Still have you down for March 24 ship date. Oops, just consulted the calendar. March 23 is Easter, so that Monday would be a holiday, right? So, that would be mailed out March 25th, if they're closed down on Monday.

I heard orps have white legs...............I'm not very sure, though.................they say that if your orp's leg isn't white then it's an impostor.
