Other Poultry Calendar for 2018, anyone?

How does one choose pictures for a "poultry" calendar? How many goose, turkey, duck, pheasant, quail, guinea, peafowl, emu, swan, versus rooster, hen, chick?

Sorry about some of the confusion around this thread. We've been swamped with other stuff and have wanted to make sure that we're not putting the carriage before the horse and/or biting off more than we can chew

So, here's where we're at: We support the idea of an "other poultry calendar", but there are a few big concerns:

1. When we did it in the past, they didn't sell very well and we had a bunch that were wasted
2. Getting them ready for print requires a HUGE amount of effort and time... choosing the pics, getting big versions, and getting them formatted and ready for print, etc.
3. Even if we get pre-orders and commitments to help with the work, design, etc., there's still worry that there could be other unforeseen issues.

So, a few options:

1. We 100% mitigate against the issues above and we do a run of "Other Poultry" calendars.
   
2. We add a few of the best other poultry pics to the "13th month" of the regular BYC calendar.

Again, the calendars are a TREMENDOUS amount of work for us, so we have some trepidation around potentially doubling that effort.

You know I had volunteered to get 100% of the work done. Downloaded the same program the printing company uses and learned how to use it. This was all over a month ago before this thread was locked without explanation. A week after it was locked, I finally asked what was up. Now after being left in limbo for over a month I'm not interested.

Sorry members, but I don't appreciate how this was handled so I won't be helping out.

@Debs Flock, I take FULL responsibility for this. I'm VERY sorry the thread was locked and that we didn't communicate better or more effectively with you and the other members of this thread.

We should have communicated better and sooner. We're not perfect at running a community the size of BYC and staying on top of all the millions of moving pieces, but we do our best. Hopefully y'all can forgive us and help us move forward in whatever way is best?

I can see both sides. I'm sure there's so much more going on to handle behind the scenes than we can ever imagine from this side...and yes it's unfortunate that there wasn't better communication.

I am thoroughly impressed with everyone voicing their thoughts and feelings in such a productive manner, especially Debs Flock and Nifty. So often something like this starts very ugly and it only gets uglier. Kudos to both of you for such an incredible display of maturity. I hope that the situation standing right now can be mended amicably.

I'm very proud to be a member of BYC. What a fantastic bunch BYC people are!

This whole situation made me think of this...too funny not to post it!

I'll just pop this idea in here too, to see what others think.

Perhaps you could look at how many sold the year we had one, and print that many or perhaps even a little fewer, and just do a limited run of them. That way, people who want them would get a chance at them, but (hopefully) there wouldn't be a ton of wasted calendars. Either that, or do it entirely on preorder.

I'm not sure if such a think is cost effective though, like if you get discounts on having large amounts printed and wouldn't be able to get those discounts on a smaller run.
