Ouch! ran out of food...

well I ran out of food the day before yesterday and I’ve had a bad cold so I haven’t been out to get any. Now it’s New Years and I don’t think the stores will be open tomorrow. Anyway it’s not like they are starving they part time free range and get scraps from me as well as my neighbor. But today I received the nastiest peck straight to the thigh from one of my black stars. Man that puppy hurt! It turned purple and green within the minute. Can’t upload any pics right now. But just curious if anyone else wants to share hubby hen experiences.

Ask your neighbor if he/she would pick some up for you, and then give them the money for it. The hen might have pecked you because you didn't bring the food that they expect you to.

Never let yourself get too low on food and you shouldn't run out. I try not to rebuy food too early (since I don't want it sitting around) but I always buy at least a week in advance of needing it.

Will the chickens survive? Sure. But scraps and a little free ranging won't replace their food and it could impact laying for a few days.

In dire situations you could use household foods to get you by. Cook Some rice oatmeal scrambled their own eggs and feed them back to them. Best wishes

Oh they’ve been getting by with rice and oatmeal I know they’re hungry I just thought it was funny she was actually telling me off.

I make mine warm oatmeal out of goodies I have laying around but only as a treat. You could do this for short term. I mix oatmeal, raisens, walnuts, wheat germ, corn meal, mealworms, frpzen peas, a bit of cinnamon

If you feed pellets find some cereal that it crunchy not too much sugar. My birds love GrapeNuts. And get to the store tomorrow to get feed.
