Hopefully this is nothing to worry about but our 1 BSL hen was laying an egg a day for a couple of weeks now and all of a sudden she stopped laying 4 days ago, all the while the other 4 hens continue to lay. We did experience a brutal heatwave here this past week, maybe the Sex link is more stressed by the heat? She looks normal, active & happy, but just stopped laying. Any suggestions?

2nd summer? how old? It is late summer and if these were born spring before last, then a fall stoppage and molt should be in order. The heat could have just brought it on sooner. just guesing

Thanks for asking, be glad to supply any info.
The Black Sex Link was hatched March 1st of this year and laid it's first egg about a month ago. Our other 4 hens are 2 Buffs, 1 Leghorn, & 1 Wydanette (sp, sorry) which are all now laying on a daily basis and are all new this year too.
Still no egg as of today from the BSL, but will post here if she comes through for us. She lays the darkest colored egg shells of all 5 hens so it's easy to tell which eggs come from her.
Thanks again

Just an update : Apparently our Black Sex Link took a 6 day break. She is laying a-ok now with 3 days of eggs in a row. It must have been the recent intense heat wave? Stress?
