Our coop was made from an old house

LOL that is funny but you are right! The main part of that tree fell on the front of our house last winter. We keep expecting it to fall but dh is trying to save it...love the shade it gives off.

I have seen someone use an old house trailer for a barn for sheep up in northern Missouri. They just opened the middle of the trailer and put in a large ramp. If I had one it would be my brooder box

Here is a pic of the old house before dh started changing it into a garage/shop/coop
You are looking at the front of the old house. That is the side dh built the garage on. The door to the left is the door we go into the coop. Door on right is to be his shop. Now has tin roof over all of it and that was a booger for him since the old house has such a steep roof.

Its so awesome to see you and your family recycling! You dont find those old houses standing around anymore and recycle those boards particularly the ones that are 2 x 12's, you just dont see them! If you do, then it is very pricey for what it goes for.

I am surprised as old as the house is, there isnt no plaster and lathe on the walls. If you want to save the floors, get lino scraps or horse rubber mats or recycle those LONG rubber wide belts from an old grain elevator, they are perfect for it.

The lathing was covered in newspapers from the times. I saw articles on Helen Keller, ads for maids, black servants (still called "colored") etc. Very interesting. The coop does not leak at all. There are two rooms upstairs, dh has blocked off the upstairs to keep poultry from going up there and maybe varmits from coming down.
The old oak wood will not take a nail at all. You must use screws, which my dh prefers to nails anyway. Linoleum is already on the floors, though extremely old. House has so much character. I told dh if we had the money we would redo it and live in it! We do not tear off boards to reuse as they are in use as it is.

Dh has covered the inside walls with plywood.

Wow -- I think it's great what you're doing with it! Wonderful home for your birds.
