Our Dog Was Shot

Sure the dog should of been in the yard, she said most of the time the dog stays in the yard but I don't think the person had the right to shoot to kill like they did, its cruel the dog really has no idea he is doing anything wrong. I'm sorry about your dog & glad he's okay now. I really hope it never happens again, I would get a fence even an invisible fence or a dog run.

Actually they probably did have the right to shoot to kill. Especially if he was threatning their animals. Most states have a law that gives a livestock owner the right to shoot and kill a dog killing or harrassing livestock. I'm glad the dog is doing better. I have 3 dogs that I love. I also have cattle and a dog in bothering our cattle does not get a second chance if we see him/her harrassing them.

Yep to that! After just finding out in the last couple days that the goats we used to own were all killed by a dog that "never hurt anything or anyone", I wouldn't trust a strange dog further than I could throw it.

I'm sorry that your dog was injured and I'm glad that he is recovering, but like others have said, you never know what your dog does out of your sight so. Glad to hear that you will be raising your fence to keep your dog safe!

That is a very sensible plan, however in the mean time you should either get a covered kennel or walk the dog until you can get your new fence put in. You don't need another scare like that! Im so happy he wasn't hurt worse. Healing thoughts for Shadoe

I completely understand that, and we do have a fenced in yard. Shadoe is a Siberian Husky and jumps like he is a deer! He can jump right over the fence. We are now going to a 8ft privacy fence rather than a 6ft chain link!

I am sorry he got shot. But you need to watch him and supervise him when he is outside. If you can't do that then chain him up. Won't hurt him to do that when he is out doing his business, and it will keep him out of trouble. many farmers will shoot any stray that comes onto their property to protect their animals. Whether is is bothering them or not. I don't shoot dogs becaus eI live in town. However, I have had many a 'harmless' dog get into my barn and kill my rabbits like that. Because the owners just didn't watch them when they were outside. Some of the owners have been threatened with tickets and made to pay up. One dog ended up shot and killed by the police dept for killing them. My neighbors cockapoos got loose several times and went after them because they did not watch them. And the one knows how to open a gate. When they couldn't get in the barn with them, they demolished the yard and garden.

Supervise your dog when its outside if you want to keep it alive.

Its not criticism when many of us have lost animals to free roaming, unsupervised dogs.

Yes I hope it recovers too. I hate to see any animal go through that, but hopefully there will be a lesson learned from it.

So what if that person who shot him just posted:

"There was a dog that came into a yard and killed all my darling silkies, I had to shoot him, but he ran away".

There would be a million posts afterwards, sympathy for all those killed silkies, rah rah rah for shooting that dog, I would have done the same, blah blah blah.

You can't be on both sides of the fence. Dogs need to be contained. I am sure the OP knows this, and feels very bad her dog was shot, but lucky he wasnt killed. Hopefully he wont get a second chance at being shot. And hopefully, where ever he went, he didnt do any damage to another person's animals.

He was in a fenced in yard! I will not "chain him up". We are taking him out on the leash until the privacy fence gets put up.
