Our duck is mounting our chicken

I would think that things would be different in the North but it is green all year here and rarely, very rarely gets below 0C. Maybe twice a year and then just a few hours. I would think that changes behavior. I don't raise chicks, so can't comment on that. Just that mounting is an every day activity. I collect and eat the eggs or my friends do every day. Currently no drake so except for the gander it is same sex sex.

He is young and coming into his sexuality. Not breeding season.

That’s right...our duck is mounting our chicken. We witnessed it after work today when we went to let them out to free range, as we do everyday. We have read that this can be harmful, even deadly, to the chicken. Is this true? What can we do to prevent him from mounting the hens
I had one that I raised with chickens and he never took a liking to his own kind (that is not a mistake i will not make again,). I tried locking him up with ducks, but once I turned him loose he went and found his favorite hen.:(

For several years he spent most of the day following his favorite around and at night he slept under the tree she roosted in.

I never saw him mate her, but he probably did, and sometimes he would stray and go after other hens. He was sneaky guy, he most often went after the ones sunbathing or laying eggs.

Injuries? Yes, they can happen and I do have one that was injured and I will get some pictures of her for you to see.

Deaths? No deaths here, but other members have said it can happen.

If he likes ducks too you might be able to break him of the habit by locking him up with more ducks.

Edited to correct spelling.

Hello...
For anyone interested in this?
Young Ducks are sexually active. From about 4 months of age till the second season. This is true with all poultry really. Hens breed Hens. Drakes breed anything that they can. Kiddie pools are exciting places.
Breeding season has nothing to do with sexual hopping as many do when young. Ducks have a season. Birds molt and Drakes in eclipse do not breed and hens that are done laying after a season do not get bred.
