It's only my second candle so I'm doing pretty good. I was suppose to wait till Friday but I have to work that night so It thought I would do it now. ANYWAY, out of 12 eggs I got from Miss Prissy (BBS Orps) I have NINE that are growing large and moving around in their shells! One shell was cracked so I tossed it, One was clear, and the other gave up at day 8. Even the one that I put wax on is growing strong

Sure glad I didn't toss that one!
Not long people and we get to hatch some babies!

Is everyone home from work that day? I am so I HOPE they don't hatch early.

last update and tried to send pic but my puter is going wacko. So hatch is over on halloween hatch. Total eggs incubated 18. Total hatch and running around 17. One candled at end of hatch and fully formed chick but had not pipped into membrane, Sad but I had a awsome hatch for shipped eggs , Good eggs Aussiesharon and Gamebirdsonly. Will try to get puter working , Now our hatch is next, wheaton marans BCs and lavender wyandottes see yall there at hatching time and before

Your photos look amazing! These are definitely the best egg candling images I've seen, really. The detail is sharp, and the colors are vibrant. Google images would love these. Better yet, if you made a video out of your pics and posted it on you tube you'd probably have thousands of happy viewers.

P.S. Your daughter is so precious.

Hangin - you've crossed over to the dark side - enjoy!

Jamie - great hatch! Hope your next set goes just as well.

I've managed to keep myself from candling tonight. 'Course, it helps that I'm working on kid's Halloween costumes and dealing with dog drama. Hopefully I can hold myself back until day 18. All I want to do on that day is see that they are still moving before I stop turning.

I'm not home from work on the day they are supposed to hatch, or the two days before, darn it! I've been trying to figure out a way to be at home, but I've already used up a bunch of leave. Don't think my boss would understand the "but my eggs are hatching" plea!

I have to work on hatch-day, too, Kodiak!!!! I hate that, but maybe most of the little stinkers will wait until after I get home to pop out of their eggs!!! Well, I'm hoping anyway.

Jamie - what an awesome hatch!!!! and a super pullet to cockerel ratio!!!! Great job!!!!!!

Erin,
What kind of eggs you got in the bator? Where did you get them? Are you finding enough chicken people on the ROCK or are you having to have them shipped on Island?

I got 6 BBS Orph eggs from Miss Prissy under a broody hen that should hatch on the 13th, plus 7 duck eggs under her that are to hatch on the 11th.

Hi Jayare, how are things 'way down south?

I have Blue Barred Rock eggs in the bator from Halo. She's in Florida so these eggs came from about as far as they possibly could! So far, so good though, as I have 9 that are growing and hopefully hatching on the 7th.

There are actually getting to be quite a few people on the island that have chickens, but most people avoid roosters. I am considering doing some breeding if I get a good blue roo, just to provide chicks to people here instead of having to ship them from Palmer. I don't have the room to raise a lot of different breeds though, so I might have to just sell mutts!

Its getting close guys. I just have time to clean hatcher and get ready to start again. I candled last night and as of now 16 wheaton marans 2 BC marans and 1 lavender wyandotte are still looking good. then after this hatch the following wednesday I have 8 BC marans going in the hatcher. So three weeks straight for me to hatch. This is great. I may have to move to the shed to make more for all the fuzzies. At least I hope thats the case, So starting now 17 wellies as of last night and hopefully will keep adding
