Our Egg Hatching thread! Hatch: Nov. 7th (Hatching Video PG 57)

Dreaming about hatching?? You guys are so funny!!!

I don't have anything exciting to report, just waiting and waiting. I was up all night with a very sick horse, so I didn't have to worry about keeping myself out of the bator last night. I did get a chance to check temp and humidity, though, and as usual, everything is holding steady. Gotta love those Hovabators!!

pbj - good luck with those Silkie eggs. Maybe all 3 will hatch for you this time!!

Cass - that photo is gorgeous!!! Well done!!!

Hmmm don't believe the person I got them from has any black ones...

Though the few i have tried to hatch in the past have been black.
If they hatch Holloween day we think we are gonna name one Boo. Trying to come up with another good Holloween/Fall name.

It will take me a long time to name all the ones that hatch on the 7th. I still haven't named a couple of the ones I hatched in August.

Oooh, I like that name "Boo". That's too cute for a Halloween season chick!

How 'bout Punkin, Bones, Casper, Wendy, Spook, Autumn, . . . ok, I like Boo better, but maybe these will help you think of others????

I like the name Autumn - but there is a neighborhood cat named that. I don't think it would mind if I borrowed its name though. I will have to see what they look like. It's worse than naming a kid. Neither of my golden lakenvelders have names I'm happy with nor does my cuckoo maran pullet. I just call her cuckoo.

I'm not good at names either. I marvel at how creative some people are. We got three ducks and five chicks all at the same time. Following are their names and how they got their names. You'll probably think you are surprisingly inventive after reading these!

Black Cayuga duckling - Zipper, because she was so fast we couldn't catch her.
Blue Swede duckling - Baby Blue (That one took a lot of thinking!

)
Magpie duckling - Maggie (Another lightning bolt moment

)

Buff Orp chick - Miss Peeps, because she got picked on by another and peeped all the time
EE chick - LadyHawk, because she looks like a hawk
Black Australorp chick - Grace, not sure why - guess I just like the name
Silver laced Wyandotte with a lot of lacing - Elizabeth Taylor, because all her silver lacing reminded me of Elizabeth Tailor drenched in diamonds in that commercial for her Diamond perfume.
Silver laced Wyandotte, Sweetie Pie, because that's what we kept calling her when we couldn't come up with a name!

I know what you mean, I have a hard time naming all of my chickens, too. For some of them, I just can't seem to find names that fit. For instance, I have 4 French Cuckoo Marans girls and 3 of them look exactly alike. They are one year old and I haven't finished naming them yet. I know I'll never be able to tell them apart, so I thought I would name them 3 French names that sound alike, then I can just call them whichever name. . .well, you get the picture. Anyway, I've finally come up with Gabrielle and Danielle, but I don't know a good name for the third one. When I get a chance I can probably find another similar name on the internet. . . . Funny thing is, there's really no reason to go to all this trouble because they couldn't care less what their names are!!! LOL

Oh gosh, I just realized that I will have 12 new babies that will need names in about a week and a half. Uh oh!!! Better start making a list. . . .

kodiakchicken, thank you.

If I am able to upgrade my camera next year, I should be able to take some really really incredible candling shots. Crossing my fingers I can scrounge enough for that.

skeeter9, thank you for the compliment!

Dreaming about the hatch!

That's awesome. Just goes to show that we're all very excited about our eggs.

All of those names are cute. I have no idea what to name mine. I'm afraid to dole out names yet because if I end up with too many roosters, I will honestly end up processing the extras for meat. I know that sounds horrid, considering I'm actually hatching these eggs, but I don't want a ton of roosters out in my coop fighting constantly.

I hear you about not naming them yet, Cass. I don't even want to think about names until I know they've hatched and are healthy. And I don't have any roos, so I'm not sure if I'd want to keep one or not. I'm not big on having tempermental men running around here!
