Our Egg Hatching thread! Hatch: Nov. 7th (Hatching Video PG 57)

The humidity got really high (85) so I figured it'd be safe to candle some of the inactive eggs. There were 7 quitters that we opened up and the looked like day 16-18ish one had even pipped the aircell and died.
There are 6 eggs left in there and 9 have hatched so I'm not complaining. Really it's the most chicks I've ever hatched my highest number is 8, tied twice. I've noticed with my white leghorn eggs that they have low hatch rate. I'm begining to think it may be genetic. Guess I need more hens and roo's to mix up the lines.
Regardless of my losses, I consider it a succesful hatch-- and it's not over yet!

Hangin- I hope your chickies hatch soon!

I don't know how I missed this thread, but I want to join the party....lol
I have eggs in the bator that are due to hatch tomorrow also. Right not, I have 4 pips and 1 that has almost completely zipped.

I can hear it chirping at me, from the other room. I have to go look and see if it is out yet. I will not get any sleep tonight, running back and forth to the bator...lol

An Easter Egger decided to join the Rhode Islands! He is way bigger than the RIWs... in particular, his feet! They're massive in comparison!

Up to 4 babies so far, including that first one who pipped. He was the third to hatch out. In fact, I will edit the video and upload its hatching onto YouTube tomorrow. Caught him just before/during/after popping out of his shell. I'm too tired to do it tonight.

Several more pips (and I am losing track now). I have a feeling I might wake up to another 2-3 babies.

Jamie, I'll have to look around and see if I can find some wire. I don't keep wire coat hangers anymore. We switched to plastic. They don't hurt as bad when you step on them.

Riocotesei, very sorry to hear about the lost chicks.

I'll be curious to see what happens when you switch up your genetics there for your future hatches.

I am so sorry about the losses. I still dont have anything but am enjoying all of you. So ricki and hanging with pips we are the tail end here. Hanging with pips are you the one with the chick in the egg that is so tiny? All of your babies are so cute. My18 halloween wellies are trying to keep me busy and doing a good job i might add. So I only run to the bator every two minutes instead of every minute. Keep those babies coming

Still no pips for me...I just checked

Ricky how are you doing with your pips? Any chicks yet? Dorothy glad you joined the fun
big_smile.png
Do you have any pips yet? Mine are due tomorrow but I was hoping to find pips tonight. Maybe while I sleep. I'm going to stay up for a while longer and see how it goes. If they pip while I sleep that means they may hatch while I'm awake!
Michigan, you take awesome pictures! You can see those tiny veins in the egg perfectly. How cool!
