Our First Coop

I'm going to revisit the ladder with my husband this weekend. Also, the birds are perching at the entrance all night rather than going all the way inside the coop. Is this just because the coop is new? I know chickens don't like change.

Big sillies. They are young and maybe need a little bit of your assist. If it were me... I would put them on their roost tonight when it is dark. They will most likely sleep there and wake up (after a good nights sleep) thinking it is a great idea to go inside and perch in that beautiful coop made by loving hands. May have to do that a time or three. They may also, and most likely figure it out on their own.

It's dark in there, will have to scroll back and see what you have for windows...
...even with lots of windows I use a battery operated puck light to lure the youngsters inside, turn it on and hour or so before roost time then turn it off when you lock up after dark. They'll get used to going in to roost and you won't need the light anymore...it can take a few days to a few weeks.
