Our First Egg!!!

Are duck eggs just as good as chicken eggs? My family was to scared to try it.

I use duck eggs in anything that requires eggs and eat them fried scrambled etc.

The first time I ate a duck egg I was very leery. I scrambled up a couple, put them on a plate, got some on the fork, slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwly brought the fork to my mouth, took a tenative bite and............... it tasted like an egg.

I don't know what I was expecting.

I will say I don't like them over easy/medium. The yolk is a bit too thick for my liking like that. But scrambled, hard boiled, omlettes, french toast whatever... love it!

My 5 pekin hens lay about 4 eggs a day on average. Today all of them laid! But they have absolutely NO desire to go broody. They have been laying since September. If I want ducks to hatch I'm planning on getting another breed of duck in the Spring that is more likely to go broody.

BTW, I collect eggs at least twice a day. If I don't they walk all over them with their poopy feet. Sometimes one of our chickens will sit on the duck eggs for a little while but I just lift the hens off to pick up the eggs underneath them.
