Our gander isn't interested in our goose

Thanks! When is goose breeding season? The ducks and the geese are so happy together that I'd like to keep them together as long as possible.

In the northern hemisphere it starts in December in southern states. In Northern Indiana it starts in February or March. When day light starts to increase and gets over 10 hours or the weather starts to warm a little.

Hmm...it's always warm here and we get about 12-12.5 hours of sun a day all year. Today I saw my drake trying to mate with the goose.

Well, our goose laid her first egg today, and the gander spent the whole day attacking me. So maybe he's starting to get the idea.

Thanks, @Miss Lydia ! I have been training him...for months. I had to pin him three or four times today. He's stopped attacking me for the last few months but today he was being very protective of Sopheap. Hopefully that means he's falling in love with her after all.

I bet so. Mine are very protective now too and Sam has to be pinned at least 2X a day, Babe keeps his distance since I pinned him a few times already. Hope it stays that way having to handle one is enough. I'd take all eggs for at least the first 2 weeks especially if you haven't noticed mating. They are so yummy. That is if your thinking of letting her brood is she is so inclined.

My gander will not stay away from me, he stands next to me wherever I am. I usually pick him up every day and pin him whenever he tries to nip at me, but yesterday was the first day he nipped with any intent.

I'd love to let her brood, my neighbor wants some goslings. I'm a bit nervous that no one in our yard is smart enough after the last incidents with the duck who sat on her eggs for 6 weeks. Our neighbors said we should have a chicken sit on the eggs for them.

Well he is only doing what comes natural, if they could only realize we aren't a threat. They are young so it takes a bit of time for them to get it right, this year I think you'll see a better turn out. Just don't let them sit too many first go around. Small hatches do better with new mamas. Not sure a chicken could sit goose eggs they are pretty big. plus someone would have to turn them for the chickens not sure she could. and keep humidity up with spritzing. Since chickens don't get in water.
