Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Good results Ben!
Don't worry too much if humidity drops to about 45%. I incubate at 45% up to day 18 and then 55% until hatching. Never have any hatching problems. I think sometimes too much emphasis is placed on having high humidity when it is sometimes not necessary. What do you plan on raising the humidity to at hatching?

I am thinking this girl may be getting pretty close to laying! I can tightly fit 2 finger tips between her pelvic bones, but she has gotten really bright over the past couple of days!

My new girls! Hershey, Carmello and Twix! (Had candy on the brain coming home from getting them!

And I found this in the new girls' coop this morning! ( Ben, I ended up just putting my broody and chicks back in the big coop with a gate separating them instead of building something new. )

I see all the time people who separate mamas and chicks. I only separate mama for the days before, and a few days after. That's it. Only long enough for the eggs to hatch safely with out another hen getting in there and ending up with squished/snatched chicks. I don't even move them from their nest boxes. That's what chicken wire or poultry fence are for. Oh, and staples. Once those eggs start hatching, mama isn't going to move. I put shallow water and feed right next to them. The way my nests are, I can hang those little rabbit feeder cups right off the out sides of the nest box entrance. I'll post a pic later of what I mean IF I can find what sd card it's on.

I love the candy bar trio. Nice egg there too!

Oh Ben you " cave " too easily! The sun is finally out here and I was heading out to get some more pics of his royal highness HRH and his girls to taunt you more. Oh well I guess I'll still do it, just won't be as much fun.

New girls looks awesome! The green egg is huge, our's are so small, looking forward to an EE cross that yields some bigger eggs.

Yeah, was a bit easy wasn't it hahahaha. Got me at a weak moment. I have sent you an email from our home account this morning.

Just posted pics of a couple of the 18wk old fav roos I'm choosing between if anyone wants to give their opinion! https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/268082/faverolles-thread/14080_20#post_12142943
I have to agree with Lisa, I don't know their SOP very well at all but the comb was the only thing I could see that would set one behind the other.

Thanks CB, have to invite you over to meet them once everyone is out of the shells.

I have no experience with favs, but going on comb alone , i would go with Pierre. Bruno's colouring at this stage is nicer, but the stars on his comb are not as evenly spaced as Pierre's .

I wasn't sure about Pierre's comb as far as counting points - depending on what counts he may have an extra. I probably should've used comb pics from the same angle. Thanks for your response!
