Our introduction to keeping chickens, the high's, the lows and pics of our journey.

Ben, it's dead. It's becoming what's called a "kelo". This tree is a bit small for that, but looking at the spot it's growing in, it's probably between 50 and 100 years old. It's more common further up north, where a pine will grow for about 400 years until it starts dying, then the process of becoming a kelo takes about 30 years, and then it can still stand for hundreds of years. You can build great log cabins out of that wood, it's very durable and needs no finishing.

Nice to hear that your brother is getting to see his kids. Hopefully everything works out for him, the situation must be putting a lot of pressure on you too. Did you give the social worker some eggs to try?

I was going to offer them some, but after the look on their face after seeing blue eggs I didn't offer.

Speaking of eggs, this afternoon I heard a commotion down the coop, went down to check the there was a LS and SPW in the same nest, one egg was crushed, no movement from the almost fully formed chick inside.

Sadly, down to a single egg, will candle it tonight and hope to see some movement.

It's been a rough few days here for a few reasons. See what happens with it, fingers crossed we get a miracle girl.

. Don't lose heart! In the grand scheme of things, good news about your brother's situation trumps even chicks and chickens.

I am back in the USA and catching up now that I have real internet

Your thread is living uo to its name Ben. My goodness. I really hope you get a pullet coro.

Congrats FCL for your daughter.

My brother worked his *** off to be an opera singer. He ended up getting into the chorus in Sydney with Opera Australia and had great promise, then came down with Eilepsy. Unfortunately, performing on a stage and seizures are incompatabale.. It was hard on my brother but after 20 years, 2 brain surgeries, multiple clinical trial meds and two lost marriages, he has a PhD from NSW Uni and a great long term GF.

Hey oz , I was only thinking the other day how we hadn't heard from you in a while. Nice to hear that the your brother is on ' the up and up ' , sounds like a battler.

The adventure continues.

We had visitors yesterday, and the kid in the back yard must have made Dusty crow even more. Even I noticed it. We lost an egg, and last night candled the last one, saw movement and placed it back under AMy Wyandotte.

At about 12pm the prank calls started, some coward blocked their ID, and thought they would 'pay me back' with ludacris calls about my add in the paper. Clearly, he was a local that had joined the dots of the advertised roo to his local area.

If he had called even at that hour to 'make a point' and then was reasonable "hey, that bleeding rooster is a problem, do something about it" I would have been fine, even apologetic. But this guy was a real jerk, feigning interest followed by low offers and then flat out disgusting remarks.

Such a juvenile approach made my blood boil, why could he not have been a normal person and said it was an issue, threatened to call the council or even to come over and face up to me instead of hiding behind an blocked number like some yellow bellied pervert.

If Dusty does not find a new home today I will have to handle matter myself.

On the upside of live at Bens-Hens place, I found a small egg in the run today, I am guessing Taz the Wylkie laid her first egg! One or so days and we should have a soggy chick.
