Thanks all for all the useful info in this thread!

some States will get you for selling as a "Farm" and charge you a business licence. I was thinking of saying" Free eggs. $4.00 delivery charge."
I love the sign though.

Have you looked at www.Eggzy.net?

they have 'virtual' egg stands that are sorted by zip.

It takes data entry to have correct results (like any computer program, if you put garbage in, you will get garbage out---there is even an acronym GIGO)--- If you put in your monthly expenses (one lump sum) it will tell you what your egg costs are. it computes how many eggs you have...etc.

People could locate you for fresh eggs by your zip. for those of you that need to fly under the radar due to dumb restrictions---it may be a way for your customers to find you.

It is in beta (testing version)-- but it is fun. check it out--- both Egg stands and Flock Management. If you have computer fluency it is an easy program to use.

Thats awsome you can do that around here if you leave anything unattended its gone. But they know im crazy around here and have alot of guns so they leave my stuff alone.

I started selling my eggs to my coworkers and the business has been going up since. Half my girls are broody and moulting right now so our production has dropped. I am waiting for 26 pullets to start laying though. Right now I have a waiting list of 10 customers who want to become customers and a 2 week wait on eggs for existing customers due to large order volumes. It is terrible but getting better. I have managed to make a lot of money with fertilized eggs, purebred chicks and meat birds, so I managed to actually make a profit at least one month over the last 5 months. Once the remaining layers begin to lay I will have more profit months. All the other months the income at least pays for a couple of bags of food. It is q very interesting business. I am selling my eggs for $2 dz to my existing customers but will begin raising prices soon due to higher feed prices. All I can say is that if you want to go all the way (hatching, eggs, meat) try to get onto a rotation system, where i.e. every 6 months pullets get ready to lay, meat birds get ready to process, etc. This way you have a constant supply of goods.

Good luck with your business

yeepers! Good for you!
I was getting $4.00 doz during winter/spring but now that prices at the stores have gone down I had to drop to $3.
I just have a crummy little hand-lettered sign "FRESH BROWN EGGS!". I only have 1 to 2 doz a week to spare from our own use otherwise I'd get a Vistaprint lawn sign such as I got for my quilting classes.

Now I see I 'quoted' on the wrong poster - sorry I too lazy to go back & fix it.

not good for ME! I would much rather pay $2 a doz

Hope that the orders come pouring in, and you get a lot of customers. I think that is what the originators had in mind when they built the sight.

(We use all our eggs (3-hens) but I really like seeing the statistics on Eggzy.)-- I'm always 'archiving' a dozen at a time...but I enter pretty much daily. If you miss a day, you can control the date that you enter...so you can 'go back in time'.
