Our Mixed Flock Journey!

The chicks are 4 weeks old today! I was going to let them come out of the coop and enjoy their pen tomorrow, but I just checked and while the temp is supposed to hit 73...it looks like the wind is supposed to blow 15-25mph! I will probably have to wait for the next warm, but hopefully windless day! I think they will really love getting out to spread their little wings even further!

Hope you'll take some pictures of their first outing!

We were cleaning up leaves and brush around our pump house to make room for the pump to be installed...Looks like it will happen tomorrow...yay! Anyway, I found these quail eggs right next to the foundation under some grass! I was thinking that I would candle them to see if they were good, but as soon as I picked one up I could tell that they had been there a long time, they are super light and completely dried up! Now I need to figure out how to display them with my counter egg basket...when I get one that is! They are just to cute to throw away!

It was a nice surprise! I prefer for the quail to raise their own young, but I have to admit that I was a little excited to find them, thinking that I could pull out my incubator and then a little disappointed when I realized they were to old...back to excited to have them for display...lol!

This post is not chicken related! My son lost one of his closest friends in the Washington State Patrol, they were roommates at the academy! He was hit by a fleeing criminal on the side of the road while laying out stop sticks to help end a high speed chase! Trooper Justin Schaffer, this post is in memory of you...your life mattered! My heart is breaking for his family & friends as I pray for God to bring them comfort! EOW 4.24.2020

God bless Trooper Justin Schaffer's family and your son, and all who loved Trooper Schaffer and were affected by this tragic loss. God bless all our law enforcement officers, and all who put their lives on the line in so many ways to keep us safe. :hugs
