Our Mixed Flock Journey!

Are you going to put the new kids in with her? How are you going to integrate them?

It is supposed to be chilly yet tonight so I will be moving the littles out tomorrow morning. They have clearly out grown the brooder trunk. I'm going to put an escape door across the nest boxes so they can get away from Phyllis. Then tomorrow night Phyllis will join them in the coop.

In the morning I will let Phyllis out and leave the littles in the coop alone. I will probably repeat that for several days. Then I will segment off the big run where the Cluckle Hut is and let the littles have access to the big run.

After they demonstrate that they will go to bed in the coop, then I will start providing access to the yard where the big girls roam.

All this time I will have Phyllis roost in The Hut with them each night.

That sounds like a good plan. I think that should work!
I sure hope Phyllis grows to like her new sisters.

Did you climb too?

I didn't bring my harness or shoes,, so did not climb.. But I did bring 3 of my top best flutes,, and did provide some tunes.

It was beautiful! I wouldn't mind moving here. I loved it when I lived here for a short time as a kid.

The formal integration process is about to begin as the Cluckle Hut is complete. I wrapped up the build yesterday. All that is left is to paint it and install the automated door.

The double side doors are fitted together. I installed a second latch inside the bottom door to really secure everything.

Phyllis has been forced out of the main coop at night and has been roosting in the run. Last night I simply moved her over to the coop.

I had to let her out this morning as the automated door is not yet installed. Here she is enjoying some alone time in The Hut this morning.

You have built her and the littles a beautiful home Bob. Well done! I hope that they will all get along well. She's such a sweet girl. Thank you so much for sharing the journey!

Last night we had one last roosting session together inside.

Every night when I bring the girls inside from their little run they roost on my arm. When we get to my office then they hang out on my arm and from themselves, even nap for a while.

Here they are last night. For the first time someone slips off my arm.

Because of that they adjusted their roosting location. I was a little worried about my head. After all there is precidence.
