Happy Mother's Day to all of the mom's here!

My daughter and her husband surprised me with stamps for my eggs! They also found Food Safe ink, but that won't arrive until tomorrow! I love these!!!

Yeah and it probably won't take them long!

I just read an article from the Chicken Chick on Bumble Foot! She said that the roosts should be kept no higher than 18" to help prevent it, especially for the heavier breeds. I'm trying to decide how to lay out the roosts in my coop and now I'm a little nervous! I'm thinking of doing a ladder type of set up, to help with that issue, but there's no way I can accommodate all of my chickens with an 18" roost! What has your experience been Debby?

I sure learned from my first experience with setting up roosts. I made them way too high and one of my girls permanently injured one of her legs. That was a sad lesson.

After that, I made shorter roosts using a ladder type set up. Silly girls all wanted to roost as high as possible so there was a lot of squabbling over who got the top rung.

For my current coop, the roosts are all the same low height and that has worked better (for the chickens and me).

Thank you for that insight Debby! I will probably have to go the ladder route. The top will be about 4' high, but they won't be able to just jump down from there, so hopefully that will keep them safe.

Yeah, I've seen that too. I'm going out now to look at it with my husband & I want to get the supplies today to get it set up for them.

They're flat boards and I'm guessing they are about 3" wide, give or take a tiny bit.

This may be a bit late.. but here is my roost area.. and you can see my ladder too... I use 2x4s for roosts...
