Our Mixed Flock Journey!

My girls are still laying eggs...not all of them every day, but I'm still getting 6-8 eggs daily! I thought they might have stopped by now! I'm curious to see how long they will keep laying!
I haven't shared any since 10.23, so for my record here are the following days 10.24-10.30!

Have you started your egg preserving project yet (the one that involves lime)?

That's a whole lot of eggs!

No, not yet...I need to get on it! I just pulled out one of the frozen eggs this morning, waiting for it to thaw out, so I can try to fry it! I know @RoyalChick said it changes the texture and I believe her, I just want to see what it's like! :)
I have almost 9 dozen to put up, it doesn't take long to get that many!

That's a lot of eggs & like everyone else I am curious to see how your experiments go. :)

Me too! I know that I will be whisking eggs and freezing them! I hope I like the way the lime process goes as I've read that they are almost like fresh eggs, but the yolks can be a little thinner!

Such a lovely day here today and it's supposed to stay in the upper 50's and then into the mid to upper 60's by the middle of the week, we might even see 70 again! Then it will start to cool off and I imagine stay that way until next Spring! We are cleaning the deck and getting it ready to stain! It really needs to be done, I'm glad that the weather has improved enough so that we can get it done before winter sets in!

I went out to the chicken pen to see how everyone is doing! My two silky roosters must have really gone after each other...they were both pretty bloodied up and started it again while I was out there. I think we are going to cull them this weekend :( ...just too many roosters!

That's too bad Rene, that fighting can be too much. :(

Yeah, I think it was pretty brutal...sad thing is, you just can't give roosters away, people don't want them! I've put this off as long as I can! :(

This is one reason I won't keep a rooster. :( It's a shame they have to forfeit their lives for doing what nature dictates but the reality is they serve no real purpose once you have 1 good rooster.

I only wanted one rooster, I received two with my original order and then I decided that I wanted a FBCM, my friend gave these guys to me! I know where meat comes from and it's not just from the meat department at the store, like some people actually think! At least with these guys I know how they lived...it doesn't make it easier though, I didn't plan on butchering any of my flock! We might be raising some meat birds next year...we'll see how things go, I will have a different mind set about them, but it's still not a fun thing to do!
