Our Mixed Flock Journey!

I hope today's drive is easier.
Thank you Bob! We arrived safely home about 30 minutes ago! The pass was actually worse today. We got stuck behind the snow plows, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing as they cleaned off the deeper snow and it made the crazy people slow down!

Nope, You may have between 4 & 6: 2 hens, 2 roosters, 2 pullets...if you really like the boys you may have 2 cockerels as well. :lau Then again there are standards & bantams so double that! Chicken math works on the Ark too. :gig
Yes, this is chicken math at it's finest...well done...:gig

That's right! At least 2 of every breed. That would be quite a few.

Hello! Glad you made it home safely! Now, when are those chicks coming!😁
Good morning WhoDat and thank you! :love

I don't have a date for the chicks yet. My friend told me that he's waiting for the guy to get some hatched. I just hope I have a little notice! There are a couple of things I would like to do differently with my crib brooder, but I don't know if I will have time! More than likely it will go like this...phone call: I'm heading up to get chicks...me: frantically getting the brooder set up...:gig

Today has been lovely...we hit 60° and most of our snow is gone! I went out and spent a little time with my flock. I threw out their chicken scratch and thought that they would all be absorbed in their snack, so I turned to walk away only to have 1/2 of my girls following me. 🤗💕 I went and grabbed some more scratch and went down on their level to give them their treat out of my hands...they were thoroughly enjoying themselves...some of them are quite dainty about it, others are like being hit with a jackhammer...:gig

I don't know if you will all remember when I said I let hubs have some design input and I would share it later. He is building our range hood cabinet & is adding a small shelf to it, per my request. He asked me if I would like to add corbels to support the shelf and an applique piece to the front of the cabinet. I thought that would look nice. Here's where we had different ideas. I was leaning towards something with a simple design he was wanting something a bit more ornate. So, we looked, I liked the ones with acanthus leaves, he wanted grapes. At first I wasn't to keen on that, but decided that I didn't really mind and if that's what he really wants, then that's okay. I also got to thinking that it would tie into an heirloom piece that my grandmother made in 1943. My grandmother was a hardworking woman & she really didn't have much time to express herself artistically, (she made dresses for me, but that was following a pattern, she also occasionally crocheted without a pattern), so that makes this piece so much more precious to me. It's the only thing I have from her. :love

Hubs put this in a shadow box and I have it hanging on the wall in my dining area. We were talking this weekend and he's going to build a better box for it, either out of walnut or oak (stained to match the kitchen cabinets).

The corbels...I will share the applique piece later.

Since he took 2 of each, I'm sure he also took 2 termites, since they are still around now.
If you decide to do build an ARK, make sure you skip the termites,:old UNLESS YOU FEEL LUCKY.:gig:lau:love
And stink bugs. He must have brought stink bugs!
