Thank you! No... I just wanted to know what needed to be done.. I didn’t know that there was anything you could do for that.. I guess that is one illness I haven’t read up on... I have stacks of chicken magazines and none of them has covered that...Squeezing out the pus in her foot was pretty gross and I felt really bad for her. You need to soak the foot in warm water...they call for using Epsom salts, which I had on hand, but if I didn't I think the warm water would still do the trick. There is a black scab on the bottom of the foot, I started by peeling that off and as it came off there was a part that they call the kernal, it's hard and white, I continued to squeeze and manipulate her foot pad getting quite a bit more of hard & soft white matter out. I did this until the only thing coming out was blood. It really didn't bleed a lot, but I felt/hope I had gotten all of the infection out! I then sprayed the wound with Vetricyn and wrapped it up!
Does one of your girls have bumble foot?

That's good...hopefully you will never have to deal with it. There's a lot of information on the internet & I'm sure right here on our forum!Thank you! No... She is pretty cute...but I will be glad when I can remove it! I will bring her in tomorrow night & look at it. We are leaving on Wednesday to see hubs Aunt & pick up his late uncle's telescope that she's gifting to him. Hopefully her foot will do well while we're gone. I'm going to also bring in my other girl & fix her up too. Hopefully we won't have this problem anymore since all of their roosts have been lowered!Look how cute she is with her little bootie![]()
I'd love a close-up of the bandage if possible. I've always wondered how I would bandage one.Caught her out running around and getting a drink of water...she is still limping a bit, but hopefully it heals quickly!

Good morning Debby. Thank you for the link. Did it take very long for it to heal up?I've had to do the bumble foot operation 3 times in the years I've had a flock. This article was helpful: bumblefoot-how-to-treat-your-chickens-with-surgery-graphic-pics.47705
Some say they have success with just soaking, but that didn't work for me.

Yeah, soaking definitely wouldn't work once it's fully infected. I'm not even sure how it would help if caught early.
I'll take a picture tonight when I wrap it up. All I did was fold a piece of gauze & then wrapped the bandage around, making sure to go between her toes.I'd love a close-up of the bandage if possible. I've always wondered how I would bandage one.
Oh good! I was so thankful that she did so well while I was treating her. I would have been crying if it was me...lolNope, not too long to heal. Thankfully![]()
