Our Mixed Flock Journey!

The battle to contain my escape artist continues!

Our employers, supervising, once they decided it was safe to come back over after the scary blue thing stopped moving! 😂

The escape route! It's a very thick vine.

Hubs pushed the vine over to the tree and had me strap it in place.

He then tied it with a thick rope.

We didn't want to cut it, because it goes all of the way to the top of the trees and provides food for the quail and other birds on our property. The leaves also turn red and are very pretty. I'll try to remember and get a picture when that happens.

I really don't want to clip her wings. Hawks can still get to the girls, so they need to be able to reach cover quickly and wings play a big part in that. By the same token, she's in more danger when she gets out, dogs and hawks. I think losing this girl would hit me hard, she's such a character.

Hopefully this works but I'm not going to hold my breath...lol

Hope it keeps her contained Rene! But it's hard to keep a good girl down, you know

She's a regular Houdini!
She's still using some of the smaller grape vines. I'll see if I can tie those up too, if not, I'll have to cut them. When a girl has a favorite spot, everywhere else pales in comparison...lol

Take 3

Snip Snip,, and problem solved.

I just saw a rat come out of one of the feeders.
Especially for the night, can you secure these closed.

Use these, but make sure they are in a secure container, where chickens cant get at.
It is the most quick humane way to eliminate these rodents.

A 5 gallon bucket with a secure cover, and a 2 inch hole opening on side bottom would work.
You don't want other rats to see this in action. Otherwise they will avoid it.
A wooden box works just as well.

I will cut the grape vines as a last resort. They go up into the trees and feed our local quail and other birds. So we're trying save them along with that silly girl.

I think we're going to be using a bucket. My son has some in his freight trailers, he set up for mice.

I also just watched a video, where they used a mixture of 1 part Jiffy cornbread mix, 2 parts baking soda and bacon grease for killing rats. For mice they use a little syrup instead of grease. Put it into a container where your pets can get into it. It causes a gas build up in their stomachs and kills the rodents, then if other animals eat the dead rodents, it won't harm them because it's not poison.

All great suggestions! Thank you!💗
