Watched it 4X trying to figure it out. Then went to read up on the California scrub jay.

We weren't home when it happened. It was already looking like the parents were encouraging the youngling to leave the nest for the hour before the Jay came by, so we're hoping the Jay just aided in the ousting process and that the baby made it to safety.

If he was ready to fledge I really hope that's what happened.
OTOH, Wikipedia says they prey on small animals including the young of other birds.

The mourning doves are all on eggs and babies here!

OMG, you have the most AMAZING timing! The GF and I were literally just talking about this today!!!!!

No sign of them coming back yet

... but my GF said the dove's nest at her g-parents house (a nest the dumb-dumb birds put in the worst possible space on top of a metal shelf) had babies that fully grew and just left the nest last week.

We're going to keep a close eye over here and report back if we have any updates
