Our new Veiled Chameleon! **UPDATE - New Pics Added Pg 5**

He's doing great! He is getting so big now! He'll let me get him out but he hisses a lot and strikes when I reach in. I don't think they are high maintenance, as long as you have the right food, supplements, lights (heat and UVB), plants and set up...they are pretty easy. It is all clock work from there. We have him on a schedule with his supplements and he eats large crickets now. He gets more and more beautiful as he ages! I will get more pictures of him when I get back from work later! He got so big!!

I have been trying to get a picture of him, but he has become very good at going into his plant and hiding! He is gorgeous! I will keep trying!

No way! lol! That would be a lot of misting! I would have to quit my job to stay home and mist!

You get a dripper system (usually around 8-10$) It drips so they have water to drink. They don't need to be misted, they are not tropical reptiles. I mist his plant and he drinks off of that, I do that 2 X a day. Once in the morning, once in the evening.

ohhhh okay. yeah the misting often thing was what stopped me cuz i thought whoa i might have to quit school and my job haha (when i was thinking about getting one i had a job LOL).

hmmm i think i will buy one when i have the room for one!!! lol i had some turtles in a 60 gallon aquarium, but they died

so i want to get a shark lol. we are planning on moving soon so i was going to get one when we move. plus a have a brooder with 3 ducklings in my room right now lol. i have a futon and i have to keep it folded up cuz i don't have any room in there. my room is pretty tiny. i have a bunny too LOL i am overrun with pets!!

Compared to many other reptiles they are higher maintance, and they are actually quite delicate, not being able to handle improper husbandry or much stress (on that point I stress please please do not handle them any more then absolutely neccissary, it does much more harm then good). Theyre amazing creatures, but you really have to be dedicated to them and even then with perfect living conditions some just end up failing to thrive often for unknown reasons. Humidity and temps need to be perfect, there needs to be a ton on ventilation (as they can become sicker much easier then other species), cage needs to be the right size and set up right, and they need to have the perfect amount of UV rays. Despite all that though when you get them to thrive they make amazing pets, just keep in mind there is no reason at all to handle them, all it does is stress them out.

To those worrying about salmonella, even with a house full of reptiles you still have a 99% greater chance of contracting it from undercooked foods and unproper food handling practices.

Finally got him out this morning! He doesn't get handled too often so he is stretched out in his pictures.

He is a nice boy and sooo handsome!

This is his scared/nervous coloring - all the black spots

Then after I have him out for a minute and he knows it's ok, he lightens up. You can see him get progressively lighter .
