He is a 16 month old Belgian sheppard, that's why he thinks our girsl are his lol. He is actually learning to "corall" the birds and lead them back into thier coop when i want them there. He belongs to our youngest son Mike who is currently serving in S.Korea till neaxt Nov.
One o' them, "dad, i joined the ARMY today, would you take care of Deacon while i'm gone? " things.
The rotties, Carmell and Mack are older about 7 er so , and i rescued both about 5 years ago.

Wow, that background really looks familiar! Do you live in Butler County?

Anybody know if eagles will mess with chickens? I never even thought about it before until last week when a MASSIVE bald eagle was sitting up on the road about a mile from my house. And when my car approached he flew up and over my car and that monster's wingspan spread WAY out beyond my windshield. I think he could carry off my whole flock if he wanted to! It was amazing!

Bald eagles are fisher eagles but they don't limit themselves to just fish. I would not assume that they will not go after your chickens. I have seen eagles around our house all winter long. Normally they stay close to the river while they are wintering over here. I even saw a dozen of them eating a dead coon on the road. What part of Illinois are you in?

Those are all wonderful dogs!!!! I want the bloodhound..lol I have a blue tick coonhound that is such a sweety. She is pretty old and has lost her hearing now. She still romps around like a puppy when she is around our younger dogs. As far as the eagle, We butchered a hog a couple winters ago and dumped the inards about 500 yds out in the field around our property. I spent the whole winter watching 4 different eagles eat off that. It was funny because if I was washing dishes and saw the whole little heard of chickens and turkeys run together I knew one of the eagles were flying overhead. They would usually fly to one of our trees and sit and clean thier tallons. They never attacked my flock but then again everyone was usually on high allert too. This year I watched my turkeys and geese suddenly group together and was very confused. I went out and looked around and didnt see anything. Then I looked across the road and a huge eagle was in the neighbors tree!! It has been to many years since we have seen eagles flying around like this and I would gladly give up a chicken now and then to continue to see that. They are such wonderful and graceful birds to see. I wouldnt worry to much about them grabbing your birds though, they would rather find something aready dead or fish. Jenn

Here is my chicken protector. Surprisingly, she couldn't care less about chickens, but she can't stand other dogs so when ever the chickens are out roaming I turn her out to supervise because as long as she's around, no strays are here!

I'm just south of the Quad Cities. The river is "close" but not so close that I'd expect to see eagles the way we have this year. And the one I saw in the road did seem to be be munching on roadkill of some kind, just like you said. Oh, and my name's Angie too. Funny!
